Wondeful, fast, smart, and FUN on new Macs
Great game!Probably the best First Person Action game that I have ever played.I usually play Single Player only.(I tried playing on-line and I just don't care for it). This game was engaging, carefully designed, and thrilling. You can play the same scene over and over again, always getting a different result.I never had to resort to a cheat or a patch to play it on my new Mac Pro (Snow Leopard - 10.6)I later when and bought COA and COA 2, and both were just a much fun. But, I did have to deal with a bug in those versions, which is on the PC version, too. There is a work around, but you need a list of the scenes and how to jump to a different one, when it hangs.Still, this game is what we wanted. It has an intelligent interface that learns from your mistakes and mixes thing up enough that it's unpredictable when the game restarts.I was surprised to start out as a Russian infantry/sniper.Then a British Special Forces. And eventually, a US Army Sargent with a Tommy gun!I had a hard time leaving this game alone. It is addictive. It's subtle and tunable, and you learn the movement skills without thinking about it (it becomes intuitive). There are rewards at every level and sometimes they let you try out a different weapon system.I'm hoping for more scenes that I can download. This game has a plot and goals, but I also enjoyed the Arcade scenes very much. You can't stand still, either. Eventually, you'll get clobbered by a mortar or grenade if you try to hide!I got nightmares after a while. I had to take a break.I highly recommend this one, but not for pre-teens.

Definite must for all you Macbook pro owners
I bought this game to run on my 13.3" Macbook Pro (2.53 GHz Intel core 2 duo, 4Gb ram , nvidia geforce 9400m) and it looks outstanding! Installation is a snap but takes nearly an hour.I was not ready for the wait when I installed this game but it WAS worth the wait.I find that the touchpad is actually superior to a mouse as my Microsoft 5000 wireless mouse was "skippy" in intense firefights. And finally , I have been unable to get the 1.7 patch to install. For those of you not familiar with the patch it allows you to play online against PC owners. Each time I attempt to install the patch it states my game files were damaged during installation and suggests I re-install.After the 3rd try I have given up on this feature.Other than that though this game is incredible and won't disappoint if you like single player BUT if online is your thing you MAY be disappointed.Perhaps you will have better luck with the patch than I did.Okay here I sit having finally figured out why I could not install the multi-player patch..........THE VERSION SOLD HERE ON AMAZON IS ALREADY VERSION 1.7!!!!!!!!! I just happened to see the game version on the loading screen one day and realized that my copy was produced after the original patch was first released. All those days of frustration installing , deleting and reinstalling were unnecessary. In hindsight though I wish I had never figured it out.Getting wasted over and over again by a bunch of prepubescent teens is humiliating beyond belief.Wish I could challenge them to the real thing then we'd really see who gets the prestige, lol.

Mostly Great
I had already played COD deluxe and COD2, so I was excited to play this game. For reference, I played on:an iMac 11,3Intel Core i72.93 ghz Quadcore8gb RamATI Radeon HD 5750Mac OS X 10.6.5So it ran very well. I had a problem with COD deluxe for Mac because one mission wouldn't play. Not so here. Every mission ran smoothly with no problems. As far as shipping and delivery, I was very happy it got here so quickly. Great service. However, I was a little surprised that only the most expensive international shipping option seemed to be available. I would have been happy to wait 6 or 8 weeks and pay less. Instead, I got it in a few days and payed more than I had really intended to.Throughout the game, there is a lot of variety in terms of the kinds of missions. Especially the early missions are very interesting and intense. However, in the last few missions, I started to feel that it seemed that the developers just wanted to do something 'new' or 'different', and several of the later missions were extremely linear, to the point that if you didn't follow the radio instructions, the mission ended in failure, and there was only one real way to get to the goal, and in several cases, I was faced with a COD 4 equivalent of a Kobayashi Maru: a mission scripted to be a no-win scenario. I would kind of like my actions to have a point beyond 'following directions well'.As well, I had trouble with dogs. The screen prompted me to press V to fight off attack dogs, but it seemed to do absolutely nothing. The AI in most of the missions was quite good, but in the sniper mission, it seemed ... off. Naturally, during the sniper mission, my camouflaged and ghillie-suited sniper was supposed to be "invisible", but it stretched believability, with me crawling right past guards. The AI seemed to slip later when my sniper was up and running, but still the enemies didn't seem 100% committed to killing him. Sometimes the enemies ran past him, or ran away from him. A little strange. The most fun and entertaining mission was the AC 130 gunship mission. I had control of a variety of missions, with a lot of latitude on targets. I had a few radio requests on what to hit or not hit. I found it moderately challenging and quite entertaining.Overall, while the game is not perfect, it was worth the time and money. A little short, but worth it.

DO not BUY, doesnt work anymore!
I bought this game recently (Sep 2011) and it will not run. I just want to warn anyone who is like me and was wanting to skip out on paying $36 on the Mac App Store, but just bite the bullet and download it. This disc version is no longer supported, and when you go to the website to "troubleshoot", it just informs you the page no longer exists.Of course as a buyer, do whatever you think is best, but you have been warned. If you buy this you will be returning it not long after.

Updated Call of Duty 4 brings the battlefield to you!
COD 4 now has updated graphics that are clear and crisp. The weapon sights are all easy to use, sharp crosshairs, etc. realistic sound effects. Even has realistic grenade cookoff timer. The mechanics of COD modern warfare have always been great, and paired with great graphics this game is a blast. Battling terrorists from russia and ukraine to iraq and back will make your day. I highly recommend this game for your Mac.
