Just an ordinary cake
Extremely disappointed with the condition of the cake on arrival. The emblem of St James was completely obliterated making it just any old cake and losing the significance. However the cake was very well baked.Moist and tasty.Shame.about the above

Beautiful cake
First, the good news. This is an absolutely delicious cake, lots of almonds, sweet but not too sweet (for my taste, anyway), somewhere between a cake and marzipan. There are no strange chemicals listed in the ingredients, just the kind of things you would use to make a cake at home. My order was supposed to arrive within a week, but it arrived after only two days – can’t say fairer than that, although I notice that the Spanish cake came from a seller in England, so maybe that was it, but no complaints from me.Now the bad news. I am not one to complain about wrapping and packing; after all, I am buying the cake, not the wrappers, but this was badly packed enough to cause damage. The cake was in a black cardboard “baking tin” which was placed into a cardboard box and then put into the courier’s box and outer envelope. Unfortunately, the baking tin was much smaller than the box, there was no wadding or anything to hold it in place and it was literally rattling around when the courier handed it to me. When I opened the box, there was a lot of icing sugar and loose flaked almonds lying in the boxes and some had escaped into the courier’s envelope. If the cake had not been a little bit stuck to the baking tin, it would have been in bits. (I bet you never thought a cake sticking to a baking tin would be a good thing!) As for the cross of St James, I never saw it; I suppose it was among the loose sugar and almonds in the box. Also, the label says the cake is 600 grams, not the 700 grams listed on the Amazon page.Overall, it is a lovely cake and I would buy it again in a minute if I saw it in a baker’s shop, but I am not sure if I would send for it by mail order again – I might not be so lucky with the packaging next time.
