Winsome Regalia Secretary Desk, Antique Walnut

I gave this 5 stars but it’s not perfect. I’d give it 4.7 if I could, at the $186 that I paid for it.First: ASSEMBLY. I didn’t find the instructions difficult at all. They are not narrative, but illustrative. The illustrations are good and I thought they were very clear. 2 hours start to finish including un-boxing and a couple short breaks. I did it solo, and I’m not great with assembling things. I don’t do it often. Nor am I a patient man. All parts were there, well organized. You will need a small Philips screw driver and a small rubber mallet. That’s it. And you might be able to get by without the mallet.QUALITY: when it’s finished, it’s a really nice piece. Solid wood except for the back panel. The finish is remarkable at this price. It’s well worth the $186 which Amazon says is a 46% reduction from the original price of around $350. I think it’s probably worth the $350 too, but I wouldn’t pay much more than that — but only because of its size, not quality. On quality, it looks and feels like a more expensive piece. The parts fit together nicely. On mine, there’s a slight gap between the door panel and the side panel, but it’s not noticeable to anyone other than me because I put it together. There are a couple of very minor blemishes in the finish. Again, not really noticeable and the finish really is otherwise that of a much more expensive piece.I bought this to keep household paperwork/mail in so that it is not strewn on the kitchen counter. For my purpose, it’s ideal. I would buy it again.

Beautiful solid desk. Rich color and wood grain. Looks just like product photo. Upon assembly, pre drilled holes and everything else lined up well. My husband helped me screw in 2 holes that were tight. He put some vasoline on the tip of the screws to get them in. I did everything else and I have moderate skills. Delivered very well and packed with reinforced corners. Box was very heavy.

This desk is well made and looks nice. It's the perfect size I wanted. However, It was a pita to put together because NONE of the parts were labeled. The front of the drawer has a visible area that is slighly larger than the size of my palm that was stained but not finished, it's rough to the touch and not smooth like the rest of the desk. You can see it if you look at it from any angle other than straight on. Also, the top right corner of the same drawer was sent damaged. The corner is actually missing a little piece of the corner, but it's small enough that it's not prominent when you stand back a few steps, however, it is visible when sitting at the desk or up close. The small missing corner piece was stained over and matches the rest of the desk, so it was sent that way. With the price being what it is, it should not have had any flaws or damage. Lastly, the hinges on the desktop piece hit the top small shelf when you close the desktop. If you're not really careful closing it, it will end up damaging the shelf where it makes contact. The hinges were predrilled to install, so it was a measuring error by the manufacturer. Even with these issues, I still like the desk, but it was disappointing that the pieces were not labeled, and especially irritating that there are minor flaws and damage. The desk is heavy for it's size and the pieces are thick and sturdy. Overall, it's still a nice piece.

The grain, warmth and coloring is compatible with other finishes and styles. Slightly rounded edges and beveled corners create a softer, dimensional, appearance.Even the back looks nice.Storage sizes:Bottom of drop down-a little over 10"d; top shelf- about 6" (but need to allow for the slant and lid supports). Area width - 21½".Drawer-8"d by 18½"wBehind lower door: each level a little more than 10"d, area width 21½"The depths and widths seemed challenging at first, but so far I'm fitting in my 15" laptop w/accessories, bills, paperwork, boxed envelopes, small bins/boxes of cords, chargers and other misc., a handheld label printer and supplies, and room for more while still have everything easily accessible.Lower door has a magnetic latch.Drawer has pegged drawer stops that allow full access to contents.Ring handles are pre-attached and no screwheads show on the other side. The rings, however, Swing Freely with no stand-off to stop them from hitting the wood. Putting small curved pieces of thin black felt with adhesive backing (from a craft supply store)on the backs at the bottoms of the rings works well :-).

This is small chest but holds so much and it is a lovely piece of furniture. It is in a perfect spot in our bedroom and, actually, we have room on the other side of the room, for a second one. These chests are beautiful!

Very nice piece.Unfortunately it was missing the front of the drawer and the corner of the back panel was broken.All communication is via email, you need to fill out a form with part names and photos.I’m hoping the parts arrive sooner rather than later.I will update with how quickly this problem gets resolved.

Now that it’s put together, I’m very happy with it! I don’t think it’s solid wood but it’s not MDF either. I was glad the door came preassembled because it’s on straight. Definitely look carefully at boards and make sure everything is assembled in the right direction. Identifying features of each piece are not highlighted or super clear. Particularly the hinges need to be a specific direction and there’s a lot of ways to mess it up. Just go slow and you will be fine. There’s some screws on the back that were a bit confusing.. nothing pre-drilled and I think they were just to hold the back piece in place so were angled more toward the cheaper back piece. However, once I tightened a different section later on in the instructions, it ended up cracking one of the side panels just a bit. Overall seems sturdy and will be very useful! Nothing is wobbly!

If you are used to Walmart assembly required items, this is not that. This is a better quality item and the assembly will take longer. The instruction sheet is good.
