Large Yarn Winder Large Capacity 10-16 oz - Hand Operated Metal Jumbo Yarn Winder - Durable Crochet Tools & Accessories

If you’re looking for a item like this you have about 4-5 options on Amazon for a “jumbo winder” Some are cheaper some are more expensive, I tried the expensive option and it could not wind more than 7 ounces of worsted weight yarn no where near it’s stated capacity. This one though omg she’s amazing and purrs like a kitten no issues with the gears on my unit as other reviews have stated. I wound a 16 ounce Pound of Love and was able to wind all 16 ounces in one go creating a nice cake that is storage friendly. Also wound some 8 ounce Caron cakes in opposite stripe fashion to keep looking correct in a project and I had no issues with those either. I can only think that maybe people having issues not handling the full 16 ounces is due to not tensioning their yarn, you do have to put a small amount of tension on your yarn to get perfect results. My only request to make it absolutely perfect is if we could have the silver plate welded to the winder already having two separate pieces is slightly annoying and I’d love just one solid piece unit to have.

I am in love with this yarn winder, if that is possible. Where has this been, all my life. So, excited to make the larger cakes…let me show you them. I wound 2 skeins of Big Twist Baby Yarn…per cake. And now, instead of eight skeins of yarn, laying around, I have three cake balls. 10-16 ounces is a lot of yarn. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a quality, yarn winder. It is so sturdy, too. And much quieter than my old, cheap, plastic one.The second photo, shows a Caron Cake in #4 weight yarn, just as my cakes, are #4 weight yarn. Their cakes are 7.1 oz. My dark gray cake I have on its side, weighed 12.1 oz. Big difference in my cakes, previously, too. I just weighed my Scout cake, I made up…3.6 oz. Comparison photo, above.You have two arms to assemble, they provide screw driver and screws…I also used pliers. Very easy to assemble and there is a video, as well. I was using the yarn winder within minutes of getting in the mail.

I recently purchased this yarn winder and I must say that I am SO pleased with it. So far, I've caked only a few skeins but they caked up in minutes and it did a great job. Such a time saver! I was also pleased with the quality and sturdiness of this winder. I loved that it's constructed with mostly metal parts therefore I think it should last me for a very long time. I highly recommend it to anyone looking to purchase a yarn winder. Great price point for the quality.

I knit and crochet and this is a great upgrade to my previous ball winder. It is sturdy and easy to get used to how it winds. I look forward to many years of use!

Took a little bit of a learning curve to figure out how to use it, but I got it and LOVE it! It's my new favorite thing to do right now. Will be winding all of my skeins to hang on my wall now. Would definitely recommend!

This is the best product ever. I run a club in high school and my crocheters love the winder. I heard horror stories with other yarn products. This one is highly recommended

I had the knit picks and it wasn’t large enough and was producing crooked cakes. I tried to fix it but it was so fussy and squeaky. I kept having to split the six oz skeins into two cakes that were uneven. It was annoying. This beautiful machine makes LIGHT work of 6 oz. I still haven’t gone up to the full capacity of 16 oz, but when I do, I will update my review. This is very study and the cakes come out perfect every single time. I’ve wound approximately 15 skeins. It also works well on smaller skeins (3-4 oz). It’s great for worsted weight, softer or toothier.Also, when installing the main thread feed, make sure it is pointed (the jutting out end) torwards the flat end of the base.So glad I updated from the knit picksUPDATE- it absolutely does a full 16oz. When I used the Caron 1 lb, it was a tight squeeze at the end, but the pound of love came out amazing.

Pretty easy to put together, you will need to watch the video . It is very sturdy. Would definitely buy again as a gift for a friend!

This yarn winder is heavy duty construction and handles larger skeins of yarn than those wobble winders and is fast and easy to use. The only issue I found was it didn't clamp as sturdily as I would have expected. I attached a larger base of 1/2" plywood to the winder and used a couple bar clamps with rubber pads to hold it to the table or platform. On occasion when winding at high speed, yarn would catch on the clamp that holds the stationary lead in arm. A couple turns of electrical tape fixed around the clamp as shown in the photo corrected this problem. I plan to replace it with heat shrink tubing for neater appearance.This winder is a little higher cost than those wobble winders but its ease of use and robust construction makes it well worth the investment. This is especially true if you are willing to do a couple minor, low cost modifications shown in the photos. In my opinion this should be addressed by the manufacturer.
