Lamplight Replacement Flaretop Oil Lamp Chimney for Oil Lamp, 417B

I bought this for a lantern I have had for years, but needed a new globe. This one fit it perfectly. I had no problems with getting the sticker off which someone had complained about. This is a good value for the money.

Was happy to find a replacement chimney for my oil lamp.I always wonder how such thin glass can stand so much heat but break so easily.All my oil lamps have very thin chimneys so finding replacements is always needed.This one was cheaper than most others for the 3" base that I needed.It looks and feels like the one I am replacing.It arrived rolled in a clear bubble envelope which made for a lot of cushion, Then placed inside a cardboard box with air pillows around it.No damage at all.Had the box gotten crushed it would have been broken but all is well.I didn't have much trouble removing the sticker.A smooth blade pairing knife gently under the edge and peel very slowly so it all came off in one piece.Overall this is just a basic replacement like most others but at a better price.

This is the perfect fit for an old oil lamp i have had for years. I dropped the old globe and thought id never find another. It is clear it looks original and now the lamp is functional again.

The globe works well for what I needed it for, however, the glass is very thin. I will flex with very little pressure

What a great idea! Offering replacement globes for oil lamps seemed a wonderful thing to do. Problem is, this particular replacement didn't even make it to the lamp. When unwrapped I found a code label stuck on the glass that wouldn't come off except by chiseling with a sharp knife. Why do companies put those never-peel labels on products? When most of the adhesive was gone I put the globe beneath hot water and applied some soap and an abrasive sponge. It was obvious the globe was a lot thinner than its predecessor, think wafer-thin on a diet, (It wasn't as thick as a wafer), and all it took to break was holding it between my thumb and index finger with one hand while applying the sponge with the other. The think simply imploded in my grip. Frankly, I don't think it would have survived anything like normal use. Just removing it from the lamp to light up might have had the same bad result. The thing is simply too thin to be anything more than an object to look at. The idea of offering a replacement globe for oil lamps is really a great idea, and I hope I can find a company that's offering glass that won't be so thin and likely to shatter.
