Not impressed.
Disks re gods and the 300 Spartans were very good. Down the tubes after that. One of the other disks re Marathon and Thermopylae was done in a video game format which was annoying and only watched part of it. Disk with episode of "The Passion of Helen" should have had a PG rating. About Helen of Troy and should come under the rating of "soft porn" with narrator Susan Sarandon lovingly commenting on "Helen's lust, passion, sexuality" which was laughable and "one look at her perfect breasts" Menelaus (or however you spell it) couldn't kill her. Not for kids or teachers taking it to the classroom for a teaching lesson. However, cost of only $7.00+ was worth the two disks first mentioned.

Good for what it is
I got this to use as a supplement to the unit I teach on ancient Greece to middle school students. Several elements of it are interesting, especially using game technology to show the outcomes of battles. I would say that, in typical history channel fashion, there is a bit of...sensationalism that goes along with the information. While this does help keep my students interested, I have to back peadal a bit on some of the things said.

A Fascinating Summary Of Ancient Greece
It wasn't as much about the Grecian Gods/Goddesses as I hoped but it was a good summary of them and I learned a few things I didn't know before. Its more about Greek battles after, but they do a good job of that. As long as you are interested in that too, its worth it.

Ancient Greece Deserving Better Than this Average Production
This DVD set is made up of documentaries of variable quality. The documentaries "Gods and Goddesses," "The Greek Gods," and "Oracle at Delphi" are worth watching. The documentaries about battles are too often overburdened with computer generated images that make them at times look like video games. The documentary "Troy: The Passion of Helen," is by far the worst of all these documentaries. This fluffy documentary is of limited interest to any history buff. In summary, this DVD set is in dire need of some retooling.

Excellent videos on Sparta (Last Stand of the 300) and the Marathon Video
Excellent videos on "Last Stand of the 300" and the "Marathon" Video. Also, "Battles BC: Alexander: Lord of War" also fairly historically accurate. "Gods and Goddesses" also rates an "A" as well as "In Search of History: Oracle at Delphi". But,there seems to be some repetitive other videos. Rate them C+.

Slow Begining on "Gods" But Great Ending with "Battles"
This DVD collection on Mythological Gods and Ancient Greek Battles provides good value for your money, and is a better buy than purchasing them individually. The 3 segments on Greek Gods/Goddesses are pretty straightforward, dry and even somber documentaries, whereas the 6 segments on Ancient Greek Battles are a good mixture of interviews/commentaries with computer generated visuals and actor re-enactments. Although one of the 3 segments on Greek Gods is also available on another 3-disc collection, titled "Greek Gods, Heroes and Monsters", this 3-disc collection (as opposed to the 5-disc collection "Gods & Battles"), does a better job presenting Greek mythology. Still, if you are looking for a good series/collection of documentaries on Ancient Greek Battles, you won't go wrong with "Ancient Greece: Gods and Battles". Warning: some of the battle scenes may be too gory for younger and/or sensitive viewers!

History can Repeat Itself
Excellent documentary. It is very informative and well done. I couldn't stop watching it. It is important to understand our democracy and where it started. You will not be disappointed.
