Good folklore, but the English is a bit dated
The stories are in pretty good form, but the English could be improved. It’s structure is alright. The wording kinda bites though.

It's....Alright...
Bought this for my husband. He liked it but his only complaint is that the translation is a bit off/dated. He liked the stories though.

Cheaply made, too expensive, and just boring
I am sending this back. For that expensive price for a paperback you expect something reasonably good. But this is cheaply made. Typeface is poor. There is no introduction. No author name on the actual product, unlike the author name given online. It says on it it is an Amazon book. I know the stories might be ancient but the writing is not much good either. In fact some of it is just downright poor and really boring. That's it. There's just far better books out there if you want Japanese folktales - Lacfadio Hearn has written a few excellent books and also there's The Forgotten Japanese by Miyamoto, just to name a few on my shelf.
