Last couple of reviews of this product said the same thing we experienced. We thought surely we'd get one as advertised. But no. Item came in shrink wrap (even though these items aren't shrink wrapped normally at a store) so we thought everything was fine at first glance. Upon opening the plastic box and inspecting the device, we could see scratches all along the front and back. It was dirty in places and the battery compartment had clearly been tampered with as there were dents in the plastic. Opening the battery compartment you should find a tab to pull out so that the battery connects with the device and it turns on (per the HANNA instructions that come with the drvice). There was no tab. This is clearly a used device that was put with new packaging. I am very disappointed to have spent $80 on this to have to return it and wait a week to get refunded by Amazon after the item gets shipped back. Who knows how long this device was used for or why it was returned? You have to be some kind of special to think that you can pass this off to someone as new. I'm not taking the risk of keeping this so that it can die a month later and I'm out $80. I can buy a used one of these for a lot less. Very disappointed in Amazon for allowing this seller to sell on their platform. Since this appears to keep happening to multiple people. We probably received the last reviewers return. I'm finding more and more of these issues with Amazon. And having to wait over a week to receive my money back for something like this is beyond frustrating.

Easy to be

Love this salinity tester. Once calibrated (which takes literally 20 seconds to do), this product quickly and accurately test the salinity of my saltwater aquarium. Much easier and faster than using a refractometer (and I suspect just as accurate).

I have recently return to the salt water tank hobby, with that being said this tester is so easy to use once it is calibrated. It comes with everything you need to set up and go including the battery and water pouches for calibration. One thing to not under the battery is a clear blue plastic tab that has to be removed, its in the instructions but its kind of difficult to see. I would recommend this to anyone with a salt water tank.

If your used to S.G don’t forget to set measurements to that. By default it’s on PPT and NOT S.G I made the mistake and flooded my tank with RO.

Ein Stern für die schnelle Lieferung. Aber leider funktioniert dieser Tester nicht. Es wurde alles nach Anleitung ausgeführt aber leider zeigt er immer wieder Error an. Schade über 100,- EUR ausgegeben und erfüllt nicht seinen Zweck.

I was using a cheap refractometer that I bought on Amazon but it was giving me funny readings and seemed to need calibrating almost every time I used it. To save myself worry, I decided to invest in this salinity pen. Calibration is super easy and checking tank salinity is as simple as dunking the pen in the tank and turning it on. I have a squeezy bottle of RO that I keep handy for rinsing probes etc, which makes it very easy to give the pen a quick rinse before putting away. I had my water tested at the store where they use the Milwaukee digital refractometer and it was giving the same reading as this pen, so I'm fairly confident it's accurate.
