Absolutely love it - can be read on many levels with great illustrations!
This is one of my favorite children's books ever. It arrived today and my 4 year old son has asked me to read it 15 times already. He really loves the illustrations and it's been fun watching him understand the concept of perspective (as the stone means different things for different animals -- a pebble to a giant moose, a hill to a small bug). It also sparked an interesting conversation based on the ending and what it means. The gentle repetition on some of the pages was comforting to my son - and the detailed illustrations really captivated him. I love this book so much and can see it resonating at different levels with children at different ages and adults. It would be great to use in an elementary school to explore the concept of perspective. I want to buy this for all my friends but my husband said "the credit card is full!" :). I highly recommend this and the Life book illustrated by the same person. I try not to buy too many books when I can get them out of the library, but this and the Life book were totally worth it. I never get bored of them.

This is the best book.
It's a beautiful story, simplicity and profundity all in one. I bought this for myself after finding it at the library. My daughter 3, likes it too. ;)

Beautiful book - a bit 'heady'
I love Brendan Wenzel and bought this book with much enthusiasm for my precocious 2.5 year old. This book is a little long, and over her head right now, though she can still mostly hold her attention with the interesting illustrations. I enjoy reading this but will probably tuck it away for a while; "They All Saw a Cat" has a similar theme but is a bit more age-approriate and engaging for the preschool set, I'd say.

A great concept book for younger readers
This was a thoroughly enjoyable book even for an adult, which I have to admit to being. While the rock was always a rock, it went through many experiences and environments on its journey through time. The story talks about life in real, easy to understand ways that don't feel preachy. It is also entertaining as we see the rock subjected to so many different things. Through it all, it remained a rock.

Absolutely Delightful
If you are on the fence about buying this book, please know that you will not be disappointed. Wenzel's mixed-media illustrations are gorgeous and rich with small details young readers will love to find. The story has a gentle rhythm and allows readers to view a stone from the perspective of a wonderfully diverse group of creatures.Highly recommended for children ages 5 and up. Younger children will still enjoy the book, but older children will be better able to grasp the book's multi-layered message. A great pick for discussing the unique ways in which we all view the world.

Dust Jacket
Great book, but arrived with tears in the fist jacket and on the back were sticky circles. Will have to toss the dust jacket.

Beautiful but hard for Kids to Understand
I personally loved reading this book. But I’m a middle aged adult. My 5-year-old son, who got this book from the Prime Reading box for his age group, was totally confused. When we finished reading it he asked if we could exchange it for a book with a story. I argued that the story here is about a rock through the ages, and time, and helping us think about eternity through the lens of one place. Then he said, “Ok. So can we exchange it for a book with a kids’ story then?”If you’re looking for a children’s book for adults, this is awesome and you won’t be disappointed. If you’re looking for a children’s book that young kids will actually want to read again and again, this isn’t that book.

Beautiful Book
Wonderful story, beautifully illustrated. Gives a great way for children to become aware of the world around them. I highly recommend.

Beautiful illustrations
Really beautifully illustrated book with a deeper meaning, which I really loved, but slow pace, so that it might be a bit boring for some children. I bought this for my 7-year old, who seems to have something lyrical and philosophical. Interestingly though, it was my younger daughter, aged 5, who showed more interest in this, perhaps because she is a more visual person.

beautiful drawing
My son (4) loves this book. It's not a story. There are just a few words and that actually helps the children to develop their curiosity and their imagination. Drawings are very beautiful

...and it was as it was where it was in the world.
Cute little story about various animals hanging out on a stone. It offers each of them something different, but always stays a constant in the world. Nice one.I am partial to the otters and the cat, although the whole book makes me happy.

A Beautiful Story
This is a beautiful story about how one stone can mean something different to everything and one who crosses paths with it! It has lead to a beautiful lesson about what tree can mean to all those who encounter it too!
