Salt Review
So, I actually bought this product only to see its quality and do a review. I am an intermediate to expert level commis chef with a passion for herbs, spices and seasonings. It is a hobby of mine to seek out and experiment with all ranges of ingredients not only for that amazing flavor profile but also learning about the culture, environment and society that the flavor influence comes from.Natierra's Salt Trio didn't offer a lot of description (and zero reviews) and I was intrigued by the beautiful company picture with what appears as the 3 salts spread on a cutting board (2 pink salts and 1 blue). So lets start there. The 3 salts, Inkasalt, Himaiania Fine Pink Salt and Himaiania Coarse Ice Salt are actually 2 pink salts and one white (No, the Ice Salt does not have even the slightest blue tint as suggested by the promo picture). I've included a picture on a grey cutting mat in natural sunlight. I also put tri-color peppercorns to the left of each sample to try to give a visible size reference since.Inkasalt (the first on the left in my picture) is the only fair trade salt out of this trio and heralds from the Andes Mountains and Natierra informs its from Salar de Uyuni salt flats in Bolivia. This is a coarse pink salt of various sizes with visible natural impurities (?) (See picture 2 - a "clean" piece vs. an "impure" piece). The flavor is a light pure saltiness with no noticeable other flavors despite the high mineral content. It has a some moisture to it, giving it a softer, crumblier crunch. I believe "Inkasalt" is more of a product name by Natierra than an actual type of salt like Celtic Sea Salt (Sel Gris) or Himalayan Pink Salt. This salt might be named Peruvian Salt, Incan Salt or any other combination of these words by other companies referring to pink or white salts harvested from the above mentioned flats and surrounding areas like Machu Picchu and/or Maras. These salty flats are family owned which would account for the "fair trade" certification on this salt. I also must mention a salt named Inca Sun Salt (harvested in the same region as this) but the salt has a yellowish tint an ever so slightly different taste, yet is from the same source (different harvesting procedure and location). I share this only for education reasons as 1.) this is not Inca(n) Sun Salt and 2.) I often become frustrated trying to sort out my seasonings as region and harvesting procedures does make a difference (example check out how many types of cinnamon there are all with a unique taste and Coumarin [a toxin] level). I swear the other two salts won't have such a long description.Himaiania (product name) Fine Pink Salt is your run of the mill Himalayan pink salt (which is usually harvested through mining in Punjab region of Pakistan) except that Natierra sources responsibly and gives back to poverty stricken communities. Light and delicious, this can easily be used in cooking or as table salt when you want the flavor enhancing benefits of salt with a little less strength of regular table salt.Himaiania Course Ice Salt, according to Natierra, is harvested from mines deeper in the Himalayan's than the pink. It is my understanding that Himalayan White Salt is actually on the outter layers of the mines. It is harder to mine than its pink counterpart and considered more rare. Though not blue, this larger coarse white salt boasts a pure salty taste like the Inkasalt, but stronger saltiness and less moisture (which produces an absolutely amazing crunch). Again, Ice Salt is product name by Natierra where I believe the actual salt same would be Himalayan White Salt. This is my favorite of the trio - though all shine when used for specific purposes. All in all, I like the product and it's pretty reasonable in price. Though I tend to buy salts in larger quantities and have my own storage containers, this set is good for readily reliable storage and space saving kitchens. They are all 4.5oz of product and come in reusable glass jars with plastic screw on lids (sturdy with the lock fit if closed properly).

Great gift for someone who likes salts
I got this as a gift for someone who likes different salts and is a self proclaimed "salt connoisseur". The receiver has many different types of salts they use. The biggest thing that sold me was buying this for them was the Inka salt. I had never heard of this one & turns out the reciever hadn't either. The Himalayn salts of course or ones I had heard of but the Inka was interesting. The receiver texted they were exicted to try them out when they received it. They said that that the Inka had a less salty taste than other salts which is probably due to different minerals in it. I asked if it would be more of a finishing salt & they replied yes since it is more subtle salt taste. Now I'm interested in buying myself one of these.
