It raises your ceiling but you still have to work
It's not a mouthpiece that will automatically make you have the best tone ever. But it does allow you to increase your ceiling. Your potential increases exponentially with this piece here. It's reliable as well, you can count on it to give you a steady tone. It also allows you to transition between jazz and classical style reasonably. All in all, this is a very good mouthpiece.

Great product from Selmer Paris
I just spent some time playing my newly arrived Selmer Concept alto mouthpiece and I must say that I am really impressed. The response is very consistent top to bottom, pitch accuracy is solid even on problematic notes, and clean articulation is a breeze. I have been playing on Vandoren mouthpieces for quite some time, mostly on an AL3 and recently on an AP3. Both have positive characteristics - smoothness and clarity on at AL3, more projection without edge on the AP3. The Concept betters both by a considerable margin (for me anyway). I am getting that beautiful "Selmer sound" I remember from past experience. My equipment is a Yamaha 875 Custom EX alto with a V1 neck, Vandoren V21 #2.5 and #3 reeds, and a Vandoren MO ligature. I am going to check out other ligatures in hopes of finding that elusive perfect set-up. I am sure that my mouthpiece search is done. The Concept is my end game.

Great Mouthpiece
I purchased this mouthpiece about a year ago, so this review is based upon a good deal of playing experience. This replaced a Selmer Larry Teal mouthpiece that had been my go to legit mouthpiece previously.I really loved the dark sound that I got out of the Selmer Larry Teal - but was not always a fan of the responsiveness or evenness of register throughout the horn. The Concept seemed to immediately correct that. I believe this mouthpiece has an amazing consistency throughout the registers. Even technical altissimo passages that require some challenging voicing respond much easier than any other legit mouthpiece I've played on.I find the tone not quite as dark as my previous mouthpiece - but not too much brighter that I mind. I do believe though that it is far more focused though, and certainly has allowed me to open up my sound and more easily vary my timbre. My only complaint when I first started using this mouthpiece was that it felt a little more closed than I was used to. I like a freer blowing, lighter set up. There was a little adjustment at first. And maybe "closed" isn't the correct description, but there was just a different type of resistance, but I found the adjustment easy.My set-up consists of this mouthpiece, the Vandoren Optimum ligature and a Legere 2.75 Signature Reed with a Selmer Paris Super Action 80 Series II Alto.

High School higher level classical orchestra required a great mouthpiece
My son is teaching me about the different sax mouthpiece requirements for differing types of music and we're learning together. He plays Selmer's Alto AS500, a pretty decent instrument. He was told to get a jazz mouthpiece for the very competitive 50+member big band jazz ensemble and discovered a great sound with a Vandoren Jumbo. His fellow altos pushed him hard toward Vandoren AL3 for the 'classical' sounding Wind Ensemble, they're prior state top HS MPA scorers, tackling Holst's 'The Planets' this year. As third chair--1 and 2 heard his Selmer Concept, tried it, and both told him they are purchasing their own. Yes, it's expensive for a High School player. The Concept difference according to the musician: "fuller range--easier to play--better sound than the AL3." He loves it. Rob Buckland's (Apollo Sax Quartet, et.al.) endorsement on Selmer's Youtube was influential.

Received the product with a crushed box, but the Mouthpiece is great!
The box came in crushed; luckily the mouthpiece was unscathed! I loved the warm tones of the Concept. I went from a Selmer S80 C* to it and the transition was seamless! Definitely purchase with teeth guards to avoid damaging the surface. I recommend it as a pro upgrade!

The perfect mouthpiece
Before purchasing the Selmer Concept, I was a Vandoren artist and was an advocate of the Vandoren Optimum AL3 mouthpiece. While it's a great mouthpiece with good qualities, it is miles away from producing the type of results that the Concept achieves. The concept allows for EVEN tone colors throughout ALL of the saxophone's range. It speaks incredibly In the upper register of the horn and provides a profound approach to its low end. The concept creates a tone similar to that of a cello with the right set up. I use D' Addario Reserve 3.0+ alto saxophone reeds with my concept and a Rovner Versa X ligature on a Selmer Super Action 80 Serie II. I adore this mouthpiece and will continue to use it for years to come.

Blows Everything!
I bought this Selmer Concept mouthpiece after much research for my P. Mauriat 97A -- which is a FABULOUS ALTO SAX that can sound like Just about anything you would hope for from an Alto Sax! I was particularly interested in the Selmer Concept for the ability to play a more Classical Sound at Times -- and I could not be any more Thrilled as to it's Ability to play a Beautiful Classical Sound -- But, it is so "Free Blowing" -- that ANYTHING can be played on the Concept!! And, this is a Great Price. Buy it. You will be just as thrilled with It!!

The Concept is a Nice Concept!
I was a sax major at University many years back. Haven't played in quite a while and decided to get my chops back up. Thought I'd try this fairly new piece after reading many reviews. Considering the stage I'm at in "reconstructing" my embouchure I didn't have very high expectations for noticing a big difference with my S80 C*. Oh my! I love it. Great "centered" tone and nice flexibility. I've got an LT, old arched C*, but this beats them all IMHO.
