General Electric THQLSURGE Surge Arrester, Pnl, 20000A, 5.25Inwx6.5Inl

My mom's home is over 60 years old and has no ground wires in 90% of the house, therefore she cannot use surge suppression at the receptacle where needed (because of the lack of ground). Lives in a remote area and lots of surges. Goes through cordless phones and answering machines like crazy. Recently change out her old FPE panel with a GE panel. Added this whole house surge suppressor in the panel and now she has good surge protection. Cheaper than the Siemens unit at my home and with a better rating. No reason not to have whole house surge protection if you have a GE panel. Can easily pay for itself on one surge.

Well I can’t tell if this works or not because my house hasn’t been hit by lightning but it is a very easy install. Seriously this is cheap protection for your electronics. If you have ever installed a circuit breaker or done any work around a load center, this is a piece of cake to install.

Okay, here goes... while I really like the "whole house" surge protection, and while it is as easy as making a mud pie to install, you do need to be aware it does not guarantee protection. You still need to have either individual or strip surge protectors. If you don't, then you won't get "whole house" protection, at least not complete protection, nor will their guarantee cover everything. So while this is a smart buy, and you do need it, don't toss your other surge protectors.

Well, as most other people say, the installation is pretty straightforward. I had to move some breakers around and clean up the Panel a little bit.I did notice that the warranty isn’t five-year like some. the warranty only protects up to $15,000 if there’s an incident.I think it is a very good value for the price and I’m glad I purchased it

Assuming it will do what it is supposed to do if the need ever occurs, i give this product high marks. It is easy to install, and it is a good price. Just hope I never need it.

This review is for the GE branded THQLSURGE SURGEPRO. So far so good.Installed as SPD type 2 in service sub-panel located inside garage. It takes same amount of space as 4 single pole breakers would take. I'm the homeowner, not an electrician. The only wire is white, 10 AWG, which I shortened to around 6 inches and connected to the neutral bussbar. The green LED isn't super bright but that's fine as this panel is indoors. It runs ever so slightly lukewarm, I reckon that's fine too.I elected to not move all the other breakers down. Instructions do say the nearer to the incoming main lug the better, but hey! It's better than many Type 2 SPDs, which may be wired in, rather than on the incoming main panel bus.While I had the panel open, I tightened all the electrical connection screws and I'm glad, because 3 weren't really tight enough.

Although I have surge protectors on individual electronic equipment (computers, TVs, etc.), I now have greater piece of mind because I installed a GE THQLSURGE Whole House Surge Protection Unit in my breaker panel. I chose this unit because I have a GE breaker panel. I had looked at similar products of other manufacturers, but was told they could not guarantee their products in a GE panel. The unit was easy to install (it is the same procedure as installing two 20 amp breakers side by side). An LED indicates the unit is working. Obviously I won't know if protection was complete unless there is a lightening strike.
