Shop Fox W1828 12-Inch Disc Sander

I was looking for a quality sander with a small footprint for truing up tube steel since my chop saw leaves it less than square. I received this today and put it to work. Super quick setup- just a couple of quick-adjust handles to screw into the miter slot holes for holding the table, and (4) rubber feet to screw in place. Maybe 3 minutes? I was stunned when I first turned it on- SOOOO quiet and SOOO smooth. No wobble, shimmy- rock solid and NICE.Yes the miter table and sliding miter need to be set with an accurate square- you can’t go by the pointer and markings. But that’s not an issue for me. I may buy a second sliding miter fence so I can have one set at 90 and one at 45….not sure if they are available. Also there is a tiny bit of slop in the miter groove, but again, it’s not a dealbreaker for me. My steel miters welded up beautifully and true after I got things set up correctly.My (cast iron) table did droop at one point but I think I just didn’t set the hand screws tightly enough. If this ends up being an issue I’ll come back and edit.All I can say is your search is over- add to cart NOW. I got this at $299 and then I noticed the price jumped. Hopefully it’s temporary and you too can get it at under $300 (which is what the Depot was selling it for as well when I was shopping). It’s a great tool.

Got this on a great Amazon special. The performance is excellent and runs super quiet. I have a Shop Fox Oscillating Spindle Sander that is really noisy, but not this. It actually has a low soothing sound that calms as you sand. The HP is plenty strong and the sanding surface is enough for most projects. It is a little pricier than some of the other disc sanders, but well worth it and if you can get in on a deal, even better!

This is the second one I purchased. Hopefully, I will have better luck this time. So far, so good. Time will tell.The first one arrived with a defective motor. Worked fine for the first few days. After that - when turned on, it would just vibrate the disc. Spinning the disc by hand would get it going. Could do that in either direction. Not a keeper!!! Returned.Outside of the motor issue, it seems to be a pretty nice grinder. Nicely boxed and finished. The metal table was the deciding factor in purchasing it.

This sander was one of my best purchases in a while. It’s well built and has a heavy base so it doesn’t walk while in use. I use it often and lts quiet. Was easy to assemble out of the box. Great piece of equipment.

This came well packaged with no damage and although it's just a little bit tricky to adjust the table it's really not a big deal it's nice and quiet and very powerful and was surprised how well the dust selection works. This has been a great addition to my shop for a affordable price.

I really liked this disc sander when I first got in April 2021 it ran very smoothly and quit. The use or work that we did with this sander was with minimal running time, maybe a minute or two worth of work at a time which added up to less than two hours total run time, due to the Covid19 work was down to a couple days a week.In June I started to smell something burning, looked around my shop checking for any signs of smoke only to find that the sander was the cause then the nice quite running sound change to a soft rattling coming form the motor and that was the end of this sander.But I got to say thanks to the people at Amazon they where very very helpful even as it was past the return time date they where understanding and refunded my purchase

This sander is built well and easy to use. I use it to sand metal.

Works well. Well built. Table steady. Only negative is motor has loud whine. When coming to a stop bearings are quite, so must be fan blades cooling motor. Not much vibration. Happy with purchase.
