Creative Mixed Media: Paint Print Stitch Stamp Embellish

Sherrill has several wonderful books and I think that I have most, if not all, of them! When you open this book.....the colors and designs literally leap off the page! Talk about a FEAST of color! The table of contents has so manywonderful ideas and samples, recipes, sections on tools and supplies, brayer techniques, lists of supplies, etc that I couldn't decide just where to start!There is a long (3 page) list of tools and supplies - but don't give up, many items are things that you probably have at home in your kitchen or in your studio.The book itself is 112 very colorful pages of ideas, samples, techniques etc. There is a brief demo of the Provo Craft's Cuttlebug machine and how it's textured pieces could be used in collage.Not having a machine to try .... I moved on to the other sections on Crayons, Oil Pastels, Colored Pencils, Brayer Techniques, interesting things made with cotton pads, what you can do with ink jet labels,foam stamps, hair gel and even Batik made with washable glue! Gelatin and Wax Mediums were also demonstrated.There are Galleries throughout the book that are truly a feast of color and design. On the front cover and between the title "Creative Mixed Media".....it says "Paint, Print, Stitch, Stamp and Embellish" and it does all that and more!Great Purchase!

I don't know where to begin. The moment I opened the book I found myself paging through it so quickly to look at the pretty pictures I repeatedly had to stop myself and go back to read. Everything is well writhed and photographed. I sued to design how-to books for over a decade so I knew what to look for. Gorgeous and inspiring examples made me want to start playing around immediately! Now, if I weren't so danged terrified of my sewing machine! It taunts me.I COULDN'T RECOMMEND THIS BOOK MORE!Edit: Just be watchful of the binding. Mine cracked completely away from the spine within 24 hours of getting it. That's not a reflection on the content of the book, but on the printhouse that manufactured it.

I don't buy things unless I am pretty sure I am going to love them and this book by Sherrill Kahn is as wonderful as I expected it to be. Years ago I was fortunate enough to take a class from her and this book just extends the things I learned in that class.

This book is very inspirational. I wanted to expand my fabric surface decoration techniques, and this book is perfect for that. The author explains many different possible techniques for working on both fabric and paper. The book includes many wonderful examples of the author's work.

This book combines some unlikely materials that somehow seem to come together in a very appealing and interesting manner. I don't work with the same materials, but the effects the author obtained, and the photographs have provided inspiration for some new creations.

It is an excellent book by a creative, skilled artist. It sparked my imagination, and I intend to try some of the techniques she describes.

Well written, creative approach to mixed media by a talented artist. I love the step by step description of techniques, something not all artists are willing to share.

and the projects/inspiration is ah-MAZ-ing! I love her work and it is easy to want to do the same colors. Simple yet effective design ideas.
