Defective? It heated for a few seconds then turned off. The lapidary class I was enrolled it had a product just like this for melting dop wax, and the heat was continual.

This is a decent wax pot that I would probably buy again, especially for the price. There's many positives and one negative. Positives is that it heats up faster than my previous Ray Foster wax pot so I can get to work even sooner. I own a dental lab btw, so that's what I'm using this wax pot for. It also has really nice little plastic overhang on the front that keeps wax from dripping down on the controls which I love, may be the best feature of this wax pot. My only complaint is that whatever coating (paint?) that they put in the wells of the wax pot had started to peel up and become suspended in the wax itself. So I have to spend time removing this foreign substance from the dentures I'm waxing up and that can be time consuming. Luckily only a few spots peeled up and it seems to have stopped happening. My Ray Foster wax pot did not having anything but bare metal so I could assume you could just remove this layer before using it and it would work perfectly fine. Hopefully in the future they opt to not put this layer on there at all. Otherwise, a very nice was pot.
