Classic Brands Sam & Jack Kids Solid Wood Bench and 4 Cube Cubby, Weathered Grey

I purchased this bench to go in my gym under a window to store my sneakers and small equipment. I searched for weeks trying to find a bench at a decent price point that would fit into the space. I also wanted two large compartments and two smaller cubbies for my sneakers. The final requirement was the perfect gray color to match the room. I am happy with everything except the color. It is not a “gray wash” at all. It is more of a brown color which does not go well with anything in the room. Additionally, It took my husband quite a bit of time to put It together as it has many parts and screws that did not line up easily. My husband is usually very good at putting things together but this one gave him a challenge. Other than that, it seems sturdy enough and it serves its purpose. The cushion is not as thick as I would have liked but its not thin like others I have seen and sat on. Also, there is nothing holding the cushion in place but since it has an edge around the sitting area, it holds it in place well enough. I considered adding velcro strips to secure it but its not necessary. For a gym, it works. Since I am not happy with the color, I will be painting it a true gray that I prefer. That is the only downside to ordering large items online...attempting to get it in the box and having to ship it back. That is just way too much of a hassle. I’d rather just paint.

Very nice looking bench! Love the storage capability. Doesn’t fit a ton of shoes but fits all my hats, gloves, outdoor necessities! Soft cushion as well. Only downside is the cushion does not attach in any way. Also, the “grey wash” is not grey. It’s light brown.

Smaller than expected & patience required when assembling. Didn’t realize it would come in so many parts! Pretty color of “wood” & cushion. Cushion very thin. It’s more an accent piece than actual durable furniture.

The bottom part of the bench had a crack, and might break the bench eventually. It would be a hassle now to pack and return and buy again, so we just kept it and are using it. but not happy with the purchase.

Cannot say enough great things about this bench shelf!! I got it for my daughter to use at the end of her bed but it has found a permanent place in my room instead (ha!)First -- the box is heavy. When opened I was thrilled to see that every piece -- including the styrofoam! -- is wrapped in plastic. So even though that box looked like it had gone through a war in delivery, it arrived in perfect shape with no damage. Yay! PLUS since the styrofoam insanity was wrapped -- no tiny styrofoam bits flying all over -- no need to pull out the vacuum to clean up. Time saving WIN!The wood does smell a bit out of the box but it cleared up quickly. I was surprised that the majority of this is wood -- not press board. That makes it a heavy and sturdy piece. Assembly was simple and took about 45 minutes. If you've done any furniture assembly in the past you won't have any problems. All needed pieces were included. The design is well thought out for what it was intended. I am 5'11" and 200 lbs and I find it just right to sit and put my shoes on, but I wouldn't want to sit there to say . . . read a book or watch tv. Not that it is intended for that. I find it attractive and think it would complement most decors.I can't recommend this bench enough and looks like I will be getting another for my daughter -- it's a win!

They won my heart when I opened the box, and what was the first thing I saw? Styrofoam. Yes, the dreaded styrofoam, and usually when someone packs things with styrofoam, I instantly take off a star from the review just from the mess I will have to deal with afterwards.But this was a shock - a first in my life. Every SINGLE piece of styrofoam was wrapped in a cellophane wrap, like saran wrap. So the protection of styrofoam, and NONE OF THE MESS. I was even able to snap them in half to fit in the garbage and the wrapping stayed, didn't rip. So not a single little ball of styrofoam anywhere.Right there, they won my heart. I knew anything else would just be gravy after that.Assembly was simple, and while I've done a lot of Sauder style assembly (and even just did a new behind the toilet storage thing two nights ago) I have to say they have the best quality hardware that I've EVER used to build something like this.Wood was very nice - well packed and protected, no scratches, no marred surfaces.Completed product looks good and is VERY solid. The pad on top is like a memory foam substance, a bit thicker than normal foam, and works well.I've had other benches that were supposedly good for "sitting" but really didn't seem sturdy enough for that and I told my son to not sit on them. This one, no such concerns. Solid, looks good, and some storage.Can't ask for more. Wish more places would wrap the styrofoam like this - makes me want to buy more of their other products now just to say "Thanks" for that considerate aspect of packing.
