This series follows the life of Sakamoto Ryoma, one of the key figures of the movement to overthrow the Tokugawa shogunate. It is an excellent series to understand the complexity of the Bakumatsu period, namely the ever-shifting allegiance of the many actors of this period.The English subtitles of this first boxset are ok. They are not perfect (some words could have been better translated) but you can still understand the story very well all the way to the next boxset, which have better subtitles. The image quality is good (that of an average DVD).Overall, a must watch series for people interested in modern Japanese history.
