CORRECT part for Kenmore refrigerator 795.71063.011
In April I ordered a 2-pack of door/mullion springs on Amazon touted to be the correct parts for the above model and the model ending in .010...wrong!! As documented by others, they were too large in diameter, had only 5 coils instead of 6, and would NOT allow the mullion/door to close. I then ordered this part (LG-MHY62044106), since the refrigerator is actually made by LG, and other reviewers stated it would work. It is the correct diameter and has six coils. However, it does require a minor modification to actually install and work. The original spring, which had broke, has 2 legs...one is slightly shorter. I initially installed the new one and it binds, preventing the door from fully closing. I then carefully marked the short leg length on the new spring and cut it with a wire cutter. I used a small file to remove any burr, then lubed both legs with silicone spray, re-inserted in mullion and door, and it works perfectly. When inserting, the short leg goes down into the door, NOT the mullion. As a side note...the supplier in Lexington, Kentucky mailed it Priority Mail via USPS almost immediately after I ordered. It arrived at a USPS distribution center in Illinois 2 days later and SAT there 4 days, finally arriving at it's destination 10 days after ordering. AND we wonder why the USPS is losing money...duh!!!!

Will this work for Kenmore 795.71032.010? Yes, but takes some DIY adjusting, read on...
We bought this as a replacement for the spring that broke on the bottom of the door mullion (long flap that securely seals the refrigerator between the tow doors). The manufacturer's parts website and local appliance parts store both said they only sell the entire mullion and not the spring as a separate part itself. That's a 50-65 dollar difference between the mullion and the spring so we decided to give it a shot. Here's what we found. The new 6 coil spring inserts into the old hole and fits inside the recessed area by the hinge fine, but... the angle of the curve is more of a gradual bend on each end. The original spring was short 90 degree bend. Because of the gradual bend, the hinge can't sit flush because it can't seat all the way onto the coil in the space it has. So hubby was able to take the spring, put it in a vise and gently hammer a sharper 90 degree bend in the bottom prong of the spring (without breaking it😊). That was enough to allow the hinge to sit flush so we didn't worry about bending the top prong of the spring. We put it back together and the door works perfectly. Looking on line there have been many people with this same issue so I'm writing out our experience in hopes of saving someone else all the work we went through to figure it out. So four stars: it worked, minus one since we had to bend it to fit properly

This fits the LG LFX28978ST mullion as designed.
I received this item 1 day early. I removed the clips at the bottom of the 3 individual hinge points, raised the mullion and inserted the spring end into the hole where the previous spring was. Then the other end was guided into it's respective hole on the door frame and the mullion was lowered. Clips were replaced and I tested the mullion and noted the spring does sit in the cavity designed into the door frame. The mullion sits flat without interfering with opposite door. As a matter of fact, this spring fits better than the original as the mullion never laid completely flat and interfered with the opposite french door when closing. If you have the LG LFX28978ST fridge, this is the correct spring.

An acceptable, lower cost solution
This spring was purchased to repair the functionality of the Refrigerator Flipper Assembly on my Kenmore Elite 795.71056.011 (that skinny mullion between the 2 upper refrigerator doors). It was easy enough to install that when I got home from work I found my son had shown initiative and did the job on his own --- yeah for me!The distributor repair parts site only allows for replacing the complete assembly at about $90.00. It's hard to believe they can't offer just the spring, which is a much more reasonable repair cost.Glad that I did more research and found this LG part was an acceptable part/solution. Be careful though. I noted in numerous reviews that others had bought replacement springs that appeared the same but were actually wound in the opposite direction --- so would not work hereThis spring installed without any modification, and in just a few minutes. It looks a bit wonky when installed, but I never looked at the original so I don't know if this is normal or not. What I do know is that it works again and the food is kept cold.

Seems to work for KENMORE ELITE Model # 79571054010 (795.71054.010)
Seems to work for KENMORE ELITE Model # 79571054010 (795.71054.010) although the coil diameter is smaller than the original. I think the important part is the location of each arm/end of the spring and the orientation or winding of the spring coil - this worked as the original one did despite being a smaller coil diameter. This Kenmore model uses one spring. We've had this in use for a week now and have had zero issues with the mullion not working as it should.I originally ordered another spring found on Amazon (MHY62044103) which at the time of this review has a picture that matches my original spring, but the spring I received with that order had the opposite coil winding direction than the picture indicated. I never tried installing it as it just didn't look like it would work, as if it would provide the opposite tension than the original. Perhaps it would - I just didn't give it a try. In the end, buying both and having one work still cost a whole lot less than the entire mullion. For what its worth, I received two springs in the package and not one. Seems great to have as a spare in case this one breaks. I noticed this spring seems stronger than the MHY62044103 model - probably explained by the physics of the tighter coil diameter.
