A History of the English-Speaking Peoples (Bloomsbury Revelations)

breathtakingly wonderful, a favorite even after two full reads
Sir Winston wrote this before WW II but did not finish or publish it until afterwards. It is, I believe, the last work he did publish and as was his pattern, he assembled an impressive team of people to research, review, critique and sometimes even write. Then he did his part and wrote it finally.Nowadays we know that there was some bias at work in favor of white European English-speaking peoples and this does sometimes get in the way with reading W, but since this is here his topic, it is not too bothersome. Where it does loom and itch a little is in the 4th volume. Otherwise, for his genius and scholarship and exuberance and vision, we mostly forgive him.Things change. No matter how old he got, W never wanted to give up India. He just did not understand. But how he can write!!I recommend almost everything he's written and there are just a few of his youthful war stories that are too imperialistic or Eurocentric to bear.

Has always been a favorite of mine
Has always been a favorite of mine, and wish I had not donated my hard cover edition to a local library many years ago. Churchill, in addition to his historic place during WW2 is an excellent writer who manages to capture the 2000 year history of his countrymen. My only regret is that the paperback edition has a font size bordering on the microscopic; I have downgraded to four stars accordingly.

I've just finished vol 2 and about to start vol 3. Absolutely riveting description of history. Churchhill breaks each section down into chapters of about 6 pages each, and this pattern is concistent throughouth.
