This is a nice open face pocket watch. No cover over the face. The kind you might see in a movie to hypnotize people. It must be hand wound, which I prefer to battery powered pocket watches as hand wound is more traditional.There are several types of pocket watches. There is the open faced pocket watch like this one, which means it has no protective cover over the face.There are "full hunter" pocket watches which have a protective cover which completely covers the watch face, and must be opened to view the time. This is the kind you see in westerns where the nervous station master checks the time to see when the train carrying the gold shipment is arriving.A "half hunter" pocket watch also has a protective cover over the face, but has a hole in the center through which you can see the hands and tell the time without opening the cover. Most of the time, this hole has a glass or plastic lens.A "double hunter" pocket watch has a cover on the front and a cover on the back, both of which can be opened. Some people prefer double hunter watches because you can stand the pocket watch upright on a flat surface when both covers are open. Some double hunter watches have a hole in the front cover through which you can see the time, and some don't. Most don't.

Needs to be wound frequently now to be accurate, and was never truly accurate. Always had to be calibrated daily. Runs slightly too fast.

Attractive and I am easily mesmerized by the little gears turning. I’m an old hit and something that is non digital and non electric is a pleasant change.I have grandkids who have probably never seen a wind up pocket watch.Accuracy is unimportant to me since I am retired and can ck my phone if it’s that big a deal.

A very nice looking watch, with clear view of all the gears and without strange markings or logos found in some other designs. The size and weight are just right, everything seem fine except the hour hand is not aligned. I don't know if that was intentional design or just a manufacturing defect for the one that I got. Since there are no number markings on the watch face, and the hand does seem to align if I rotate the face 90 degrees clockwise (with the adjustment dial pointing right instead of up), I have adopted the habit of looking at the watch sideways. For a $15 watch, I am fairly pleased with what I got.

1. It is a wind up, so no freaking batteries to change out...or can't buy because they are an odd size.2. It is see thru. Love watching the inside of clocks/watches working away.3. Ticking is just loud enough to hear, but not too loud as to be distracting.Bought this as an accessory for my ECCC 2016 (Seattle Comicon) Steampunk costume. Hardware finish matches perfectly with my bag's buckles, the gears on the various clothing parts and the chain on my coat.Only complaint would be is that the chain is just a bit to short to fit where it needs to be. Clipped to the jacket and placed in the pocket, the chain stretches all the way straight, no hang down arch to match with the other chains.

This is really beautiful. Very steampunk also. It's smaller than I expected, but it's the perfect size for the watch pocket in jeans. I expected something closer to regular pocket size. Still totally worth it though.

My wife and I bought four pocket watches for our kids for Christmas, this was easily the coolest. Very Steampunk looking, "without a case" watch.

When I purchased this, I missed the part that it says (in big letters in the description) that it was a hand winder. This is not a negative, just need to get into the habit of winding it. It is thicker than other pocket watches. Strong chain. Love the small details of it.Where most watches have a protective cover, this one does not. 4 stars, because I can foresee the front and back glass getting scratched. Otherwise, love it.
