L.B. Evans Men's, Aristocrat Scuff Slipper

Aristocrat Black Leather Slipper
Purchased January 2022. Fit: I typically wear a 10.5 wide. Ordered a 11 wide and the fit is fine with a sock and a little loose without, but stays on none-the-less. I am hoping that the leather doesn't stretch too much over time, but I suspect that it will. Cushioning is almost non-existent and this gives the heel very solid feel, but not rock hard. Appearance: The product photo doesn't show that the sole and upper are both pebbled leather. Otherwise, the photo is accurate. The look of the scuff is fine. Construction: The seams are all sewn up well and no defects were found in the construction. I am concerned about lack of durability with a leather sole, but other reviewers have gotten years of wear. However, I weigh over 200lbs and the others may be lighter. Foot draggers and those looking to wear outside the home are probably going to wear the bottom out fairly fast.Overall, I am pleased at this point and feel as though I got pretty much what I expected with the exception of the pebbled leather sole.

They beat Cole Hann on price but maybe not on longevity
I wear a men's 9.5 regular (D) width. The description of the material and design is accurate. That size was too narrow and too short for my foot. So, I ordered a half size up, in length and width. They fit good now, but read further. Most reviews said they ran small or true to size. I suggest you find a place to have both feet measured correctly. These type of footwear called scuffs fit differently than regular shoes. They do not have lots of support in any area. They were not meant to. They are a casual footwear. I use mine indoors only. They are especially good for walking on a cold floor in the winter. There are only two sizes, regular or the wide. But the wide in these actually skips the men's E and EE, and goes straight to very wide EEE. Btw, there was no C, or B width available for narrow feet. Buying footwear by mail order can be difficult because the manufacturers' sizing is not standardized, and no two feet are the same. Obviously, these are open at the back (easy to slip into). Push your foot toward to the front for a correct fit. Dont push your foot to the back heel edge, its not how you want to wear them, so, keep that in mind.As for the quality of build, they are made every bit as good as the much more pricey brands. Amazon had a special so that helped on pricing. Bloomingdales was selling them for $75 and with tax it was just too much at $80. New ones can be purchased from high $40 plus to $50 plus. Sometimes there are even better deals on eBay, but not all the sizes are available and returns may be more difficult. And I doubt eBay has authorized dealers. I try to limit my eBay purchases -- just too much dishonesty going on there. So, Amazon was the best choice. One more thing, DO NOT wear these outside, it will damage them quickly. I purchased a very nice leather pair of these type slippers in the Cole-Hann brand years ago and made the mistake of wearing them to take out the garbage at night. The cement tears them up, like raking a low grit # sandpaper over them. Don't do it. They will not last. When the bottom finally wears out and the upper is still in good shape, have a cobbler glue some rubber on the bottom, it will greatly extend their life span.EDIT 2019: Initially they felt perfect but now two yrs later they feel too big, not snug enough. Wearing them barefoot they are too loose, but I am still able to walk in them without much problem. Now they work better with a sock on my foot. If I had it to do over I would have stayed with my size and let them stretch out a bit, because I prefer to wear them barefoot. These slippers are all leather, and there is no support other than the leather, no plastic or stiff material to help keep them from stretching. You can grab these slippers and bend or twist them easily. So, being solid leather they will stretch out. The upper leather is holding up very well. Overall they are comfortable. The bottom sole ( also solid leather ), is getting a bit frayed, but that is only the result of walking in them for two years. Eventually I will probably have to have some kind of sole put on them by a shoe repair shop. I allowed my previous Cole-Hann slippers to get too frayed and then it was too late to repair them easily.ADD THIS: it's now May 2021, the soles have frayed spots in the front and back edges. I will most likely purchase a sole for them to extend their life span. It's only due to their being soft leather on the bottom. You get the comfort but sacrifice longevity. If I get anything like this again, regardless of the brand I will probably put soles on them before using them. Hopefully that will make them last longer. Btw, the rest of the slipper has held up ok, but once the fraying starts you have to do a repair quickly, otherwise they won't last as long.

Very uncomfortable
L. B. Evans used to make a model called "Lariat Travel" and they were perfect. Unfortunately, they decided to discontinue them, so I thought I'd try the Aristocrat. These slippers are beautiful, use high quality materials, are well made, everything is great except for one thing: the stitches on the insole cut into my skin, which makes the slippers very uncomfortable. The number one rule of slippers should be to hide all the stitches. I just bought them, so I'm still hoping that they'll soften after a little use, but it's unlikely.

Great shoe - fits small!
I had read other comments before ordering, and learned this shoe runs small, so I ordered a size larger - and, it was still too small. This shoe is of great quality, but the sizing was much smaller than I expected. In making this comment, I hope to help others, so I will explain my situation: My husband wears a size 14N. I ordered a size 15N. These shoes are truly narrow, and the length is shorter by 1 - 2 length sizes. Narrow sizes are hard to find - esp. in larger shoes... SO, it could be his other slippers are wider, which offers him more toe room, and these shoes did not. I couldn't re-order, because the sizing only goes to size 15. However, had they been available in size 16N, I would have re-ordered, and feel they would have fit. I offered to order him a size 15M, but he felt they would have been too wide, because his feet are super narrow. I hope my review will help you in making decisions. I rated a 4 Star, simply due to the sizing issue.

Old ones lasted 5+ years!
This is my 3rd pair. My last pair was also ordered from Amazon on 11/2/14. Use them in the house daily and occassionaly to walk down the driveway to get the mail. Honestly the old ones are still wearable. They have some wear at the rear edge of the soles. 5+ years for slippers is unbeatable even at three times the cost. Hope they still have them on Amazon when my new ones need to be replaced. Quality product.

Nice looking shoe
I received the shoes yesterday, so far they are great looking shoe. My husband really likes them. He said they felt comfortable and loves the leather grain of the shoe. We’ll wait to see how they wear but, so far they are great! Also, nice fit for him.

Great slipper, needs understanding
This is an excellent slipper, comfortable, unobtrusive and easily packed. Also, the leather sole does not mark the floor, unlike many of the rubber soled alternatives. The understanding needed is that their fit evolves as they are worn.I started with a pair of size 10s, my normal shoe size, they were way too small initially but gradually expanded to fit just fine. After 8 years, they had worn enough to justify replacement, so I got a size 12, which fit well right off, even a little bit generously. Perhaps an 11.5 would have been just right. So order at least 1 size up and you'll be well served.
