Does anyone know how the s/m version of this compares with the s/m caramel cantina v-neck padded bralettes that look almost identical?

The Caramel Cantina ones are a pull over bra. The Kalon ones have a hook and eye in the back. The kalon ones have a little more sizing forgiveness with the expandable underband. For example I'm a 34/36B. I kinda gush out of the Caramel Cantina one - but I just fit in the s/m Kalon one. Both back straps switch. It's really just the pullover vs the hook-eye back (some slight other style things, like strap width/etc). But otherwise the material is the same.

Question 2

I wear a 28dd and don't want the band to be too loose. will a s/m work or will it give me the dreaded quadriboob?

I can't say for certain but I think it probably would. The cut of the bra and the fabric (It's stretchy but I don't know if I'd call it shape-conforming exactly) makes me think that might be a problem given your band size, and I'm not sure sister sizing would apply here since it uses s/m/l general categories.

XL Band Closed/Laying flat (so doubled over) at tightest hook/eye closure = 13.25 inches
XL Band Laying Flat (the whole thing, including the length of the hook/eye closure) = 28.75 inches
XL Band Laying Flat (from hook side to the 1st set of 'eyes') = 27.25 inches

ML Band Closed/Laying flat (so doubled over) at tightest hook/eye closure = 12 inches
ML Band Laying Flat (the whole thing, including the length of the hook/eye closure) = 26 inches
ML Band Laying Flat (from hook side to the 1st set of 'eyes') = 24.5 inches

SM Band Closed/Laying flat (so doubled over) at tightest hook/eye closure = 10.75 inches
