Conversational throughout.
Included are wonderful interviews with performers from the hollywood studio system era. This book also reveals some of the workings of early television studio efforts through to the late 20th century. Compelling to read because the interviews are transcriptions of conversations and as a result, the reader gets a sense of the performer's personality, their depth as a person, and views of their work, their environment, and their employers. Such interviews presented here were procured over a period of time spanning the careers of two knowledgeable and intelligent writers on the subject. This book is good for anyone interested in the history of film making and early telvision-making through to the late 20th century and enjoys learning mainly about the performers and their careers. It is well organized and easy to put down and pick up without losing track of the natrative style. It's a must read for students studying film or for the film enthusiasts.

The book is a fun read and the interviews short enough that it doesn't have to be read in one sitting. I'm a fan of old classic movies so I've really enjoyed learning about the stars who made them. Why, not five stars then. The answer is really, that while the interviews and the questions are really good, some of the stars are really not just that interesting in them selves. So not every interview is a runaway great read. Just like not every person you meet is going to be interesting.

A GREAT READ
I have read so many crappy Hollywood nostalgia books over the years that I have grown weary, but this is exceptional. The authors are retired television journalists and seem to have encountered so many of these greats at the end of their careers, when they were doing TV appearances or smaller parts in movies and were, perhaps, more open accessible. Jackie Coogan, Ralpg Bellamy, Cary Grant, Fay Wray, Rosalind Russell, Van Johnson, Kirk Douglas, the list goes on and on. The interviews do seem to have been a little polished but every person is telling the story of his or her career. Buy this immediately, it is a wonderful read.

Excellent Book for Film Buffs!
This very fine book is a must for fans of classic movies. It consists of in-depth interviews with a wide variety of stars and supporting players from Hollywood's Golden Age, including many whom you might not expect to find here and who are rarely heard from. The book was delivered very quickly and in excellent shape. I was very highly pleased with this transaction, and highly recommend the seller!

Received on time. But it is the wrong book.. The paper cover says CLASSIC FIM STARS but the book itself seems to be some biography of some one in finance or god knows what.

Not what I expected. I was looking more for stories about their lives after they became stars. I was well written. But I did find it rather slow.
