Happy Homemade: Sew Chic Kids: 20 Designs That are Fun and Unique-Just Like Your Kid!

Really sweet patterns
I was a bit worried reading the other reviews because I'm not familiar with Japanese patterns and adjusting for seams. The book has measurements for size 2,4,6,8, but I think the sizes are the larger 3-10 as the Amazon description states. I made the tiered dress in the smallest size for my tall 2-year-old and it is huge! It looks more like a size 4. I'm not sure if it's the style of dress or sizing. I will say that it is beautiful. The making of the patterns were much easier than I imagined. The book was pretty straightforward with the pictures/descriptions. Adding the seams were NBD. I'm an intermediate sewer and I would say the pattern and dress took about 3 hours (with some stop/starting).update Fall 2016: I have since made several other dresses and they are STUNNERS! I tend to just omit the seam allowance for my 2+ year old who wears a 3T and they all fit pretty nicely. Every pattern is lovely.

the title delivers- chic, fun and unique clothes that are easy and fun to sew
I have made half a dozen patterns from this book already, on the way to making most of them, I imagine. The patterns are easy (many are variations on other patterns- simple dress is one pattern; shortened version becomes a tunic, another version has flutter sleeves) and have all been winners. I think the patterns run true-to-size but only if you remember to add those seam allowances! (I forgot to do so a couple of times and things turned out on the small size.) You really could make a very serviceable wardrobe just from this book alone, and of the course the book itself is just lovely. A valuable purchase for anyone who enjoys sewing simple, timeless children's clothing.

A Winner
What a great book of patterns! Lots of tips for tracing and adjusting - super cute and easy to sew designs. The only downside to me is the fact that you have to add on your own seam allowances prior to cutting. Other than that, this is a great book with endless style options for the Littles.

Good value. Just get it.
This is a cute pattern book with a decent variety of boys and girls clothes - I’ve hacked a few without issue. If you haven’t used Japanese pattern books before, it may take some getting used to since the patterns are layered (e.g the wide leg pants are just a longer version of the shorts with back pockets and the tiered dress is just a longer version of the tiered blouse, with three tiers instead of two). I usually trace the patterns onto Swedish tracing paper since seam allowances need to be added. Doing so also helps preserve the pattern pages from constant folding/unfolding. Overall a better value than the single patterns in pdf format or from commercial pattern companies. Even if all the patterns were duplicates (they’re not) you would still be paying less than $2 for each pattern. The price has gone up from $12.50 since I bought it though.

Great for newbies to Japanese pattern books
I sew clothes for my boys and the shorts, pants and hoodie in this book made it worth the price. The patterns are easy to find on the pattern sheets, outlined with frixion highlighters and taped to a sunny window and you can trace the highlighted pattern easily. Don't forget to add your seam allowances before cutting the traced pattern, they aren't incorporated in the pattern you trace. Erase the frixion highlighter marks with a medium hot iron and you're ready to fold and reuse. This is a popular book and there are many tutorials online if you get stuck on some of the instructions. I am still new to sewing apparel (I have quilted in the past), and the shorts came out better than I could have imagined. Though I did have to make a size smaller than what he wears from the store. He is a size 5T and I had to take in the size 4 pattern to fit him.

Recommended for experienced seamstresses
This book is nice! The instructions were sparse, but I am an advanced seamstress and had no problems at all. The size goes up to an 8, officially. My daughter is almost 11 years old now (tall and skinny), and so I used the size 8 pattern pieces and just increased the dimensions by a couple of inches. The shirt that I made fits her great! This book has good base patterns that can be easily customized.

Happy Homemade: Sew Chic Kids
Simple, classic patterns for boys and girls. Diagrams and simple instructions along with a variety of styles and sizes makes this a "must-have" book for intermediate and advanced sewers. The only problem I had was in the actual patterns that DON'T have the seam allowances OR hems added. It was clear that the seam allowances had to be added, but it was not as clear that the hem allowances were also to be added. Once that was clarified, the patterns went together beautifully.

I really enjoy just reading and looking at the kids' pictures as ...
Very cute dress/shirt patterns. Can't wait to try my first project. It's a novel idea (I think) to have these in a book format. I've never seen this before. I really enjoy just reading and looking at the kids' pictures as they model the outfits.
