Beautiful and engaging book!
The artwork in this book is so beautiful. It draws you right in and makes you feel as though you are there. The writing is very engaging too. My son and my daughters all love it (ages 3, 6 and 8). All K.Y. Craft's books are incredible. I love them all. The storyline is about a king who thinks the more gold he has, the better. He is granted a wish and chooses to have everything turn to gold that he touches. Unfortunately, his daughter turns to gold when he touches her and he quickly realizes what a curse it is. But, the story has a happy ending when he is given the opportunity to choose to have the "curse" removed and return his daughter to herself.

Fantasy at it's best...
I love these books! My 8 year old granddaughter gets lost in the stories and the illustrations. She'll find a quiet space and read through each book until done. The illustrations depict the stories in wondrous detail. These are NOT Disney renditions, but what Disney wishes it could convey. I plan to buy all the Craft illustrated (written) books.

Wonderful illustrations
The illustrations in this book are simply wonderful! They are truely amazing for a children's book. I reccomened this book just for that alone, but the story is done great as well.

Transformation from Myth to Fairy Tale
We know of the story of King Midas from Ovid's Metamorphosis. Midas is a creation of the Ancient world and its mythology. "King Midas and the Golden Touch" is well written and the illustrations are beautifully rendered. The one thing I do not like about this book is that it takes the story of King Midas out of its Greco-Roman context and makes it a fairy tale. The book's illustrations portray a Renaissance world and not an Ancient world. King Midas' touch is given to him by a magical young man and not by Bacchus/Dionysius. There is no old satyr who falls asleep in the rose garden. All and all, its a good book but I am a bit of a purist.

Beautiful version of this classic story
Beautiful version of this classic story. Great message about seeing that no amount of material possessions can make us happy. There is one reference to the word magic but I just changed it to spirit.
