ESSENTIAL INFORMATION
As I have discovered, ice skates are NOT sharpened before being dispatched. After a LOT of time spent finding this out and getting the situation resolved, if I were to being doing the process over again, I would buy direct from Skate Hut's web site, where they will provide a sharpening service for £5 for new skates PRIOR to dispatch. (My local rink does not have a sharpening service, which is why this was such a hassle for me.) Hope this information is of use.

Beginners only not for jumps and spins
Like most parents I don’t want to spend a fortune on boots my child will grow out of quickly. Being as she is 12 and the same size as me in shoeS if she outgrows then I can use them recreationally. These are a great boot for a beginner or those starting lessons. Boots are a great fit. These are not for seasoned figure skaters or when moving to jumps and spins as the boot is softer material and will not offer as much support as boots that are more rigid materials designed to take the impact of such jumps and spins. I have bought these for my daughter Who’s doing basic moves such as glides until she moves to jumps. Great price For a basic boot and building confidence and control on the ice in the meantime. Well worth the money.

Size fits well.
I just wanted to add to the general size discussion: yes, the size fits well. I buy shoes size 8 and I ordered size 8 sfr galaxy skates, and they fit well. No extra big socks required. Though I have put a lambswool inlay in for warmth. There is wriggle room for my toes, the way I like it, and a good tight fit all around for support. The shoe quality is good too, though I have not broken them in yet. Also I'm very happy with the fast dispatch from Kates Skates, thank you.Happy skating then everyone. Love and Light. XX Nanny.

Great skates for a beginner
Great skates for a beginner. Enough support in the ankle and the padding hasn't wore down. I'd recommend buying a soft or memory foam insole as the insole inside is very thin. I bought the size 4, being a size 4, and they fit perfectly. They are not sharpened (new skates usually aren't so this isn't a problem) so get them sharped before going on the ice if you buy these

Warped boot/bent blade
Think I might have got a faulty pair but within 2 sessions skating with these boots they were rendering basically unusable. I noticed while I was skating my left foot was favouring an inside edge but initially thought I hadn't laced tight enough or my ankle was being lazy etc. By the end of my second session, no matter how much I attempted to correct, the blade was at a constant inside edge. Getting on a flat was a struggle, getting on the outside was impossible and when attempting the stroke the boot hit the ice more than the blade did. Had my rink's skate shop look at it and he was pretty baffled at how warped the boot was and that the blade was bent. Told me there was nothing he could do about it. Total waste of money. Have purchased a different pair of beginners boots from a more reliable brand and really wish I had just done that in the first place.I would suggest being cautious with these boots, perhaps use insoles to correct foot position from the first use and don't bother with them if you are seriously wanting to learn to skate or intend on skating a lot. I managed to get maybe 4 or 5 hours worth of skating out of these before they became impossible to skate on due to the warped left boot/bent blade. Gutted.

Good value
I'm a beginner who is unlikely to make spectacular progress, due to the wear and tear of middle age. Whilst not wanting to spend a great deal of money, I didn't want to give myself the handicap of dealing with a series of hired skates, with their patchy quality.I've found that these skates fit that particular bill. They feel comfortable and seem well made (although it's early days). Using the same pair all the time gives me that extra bit of confidence on the ice, and the price seems very reasonable.

Smooth
The difference between hired and these are ‘smooth’ they arrived quickly, great value for money, excellent flex and good thick long strong wide laces to play around with tightening up.Hope they get a lengthy life... I’m sure they will get passed on once outgrown. Strong leather.Highly recommend.

Damaged right blade.
I bought these skates twice due to sizing issues i had (i was between sizes) and both times the right skate blade was blunt on one side (inner edge) and sharp on the outer edge, causing a slope making it impossible to balance properly on my right leg. These skates are okay for barebones begginers who wont go much further than backwards skating and just want a skates that are marginally better than the skates you can hire. Of course you could get a proffesional to sharpen them properly but the fact that it is seriously sloped would mean a heft amount of the blade would need to be shaved off to compensate not to mention thats not what i payed for and i live in a fairly remote area with no sharpening available.
