Umbrella (Picture Puffin Books)

Impatiently Momo awaits a rainy day to use the umbrella she received on her birthday. Charming watercolors illustrate a gentle story about anticipation. My toddler daughter loved this book--in my mind's eye I can still see her in her white rainhat & raincoat carefully holding her transparent umbrella.

I had this books as a child and adored it. I also read it to my son when he was two years old. I was looking for a copy to have as part of my permanent library collection. It is soft cover edition, but still acceptable. The illustrations are exactly the way I remember them from over sixty years ago when I first read it. I would highly recommend this particular book and edition.

This was my hands down favorite book as a child, I would take it out of the library over and over. Now I give this book as a gift whenever books are requested at a baby shower. I love Taro Yashima's illustration

This is such a cute story. I bought it along with some matching rain boots, rain coat, and umbrella. My daughter loved all of them!

This story could easily be told about any child. It's just a girl waiting and waiting to use her new umbrella, and then striving to be responsible (and grown-up!) when she does.I love the details, how this was the first time she walked home without holding her parents' hands, how she had forgotten other things before, but not her umbrella now that she's growing up.The art isn't my favorite, I'll admit, but I can live with it.

The illustrations and ending make this book worthwhile. It's a great conversation starter with children on what they do now that they are "grown up".

The story of a young girl who gets an umbrella and boots for her third birthday. Except it doesn't rain for a long time. When it finally does, she feels very grownup!
