Soft enough to be used indoors but if it hits a picture frame and knocks it over, it'll still break!The black print didn't seem to come off on walls or floors.

The ball is okay, although it has a flat spot on it. It is also smaller than size 5 (see photo) which is disappointing as that was the reason I chose it. It has lasted okay so far but was expensive at the £12 I paid for it (although I see the price has come down a bit now).
