I loved this Lego set. I love building Lego and It was really easy to build. It’s currently up on my self as a display.

Impressive on display, but fiddly and limited replay value.
The media could not be loaded. This is a very intricate lego kit, and this is a either a plus or a minus depending on how you prefer to build a lego set. There are a lot of 1x1 pieces in this set, and building takes a lot of attention to detail. One particular step my 11 year old test subject found too fiddly (the flower grotto) and the final assembly relies on earlier steps having been built correctly. There are no big blocks in this set, and the larger structural components like the brown supporting legs are pre-made large mouldings rather than built up of bricks. The intricate design and tiny bricks used in assembly make it rather limited as a collection of lego. Once you've broken this down there's not a lot else you can really build with it. It's also really easy to lose the smaller bricks! The final assembly is a bit delicate, the large canopy for example is held up by a single lego brick support, and it doesn't survive play very well once finished. It's lego, so of course this doesn't matter too much, but if this is going to be played with you can expect it to get dismantled quite quickly. If you want this for display though, it looks fantastic. The underwater reef is really nicely done and imaginative, and looks really good out on display.Build time for my test child was about an hour and a half, and there was a bit of frustration at the intricacy needed for the build but a great level of satisfaction once it was done.If you want a reasonably challenging build with a genuinely pretty final build for display, then this is a great set. If you want a set of lego to build other stuff with, as well as the main assembly, it's not very flexible.

Fun and intricately detailed but expensive
This is a fantastic LEGO set for any Avatar fan, but at the current price of over £60, is more expensive than I'd hope for a set that really won't take more than an hour or two to build. The real selling point is of course the Avatar license, and as such the blue figures are a high point, particularly because they're taller than the usual LEGO minifigures, intending to show scale in comparison. If you've seen Avatar 2, you'll find this sea-village instantly recognisable. It's vibrantly colourful and packed with tiny details, including lots of vines and fish and vegetation. There's even a hidden glow-in-the-dark plant that appears towards the end of the build.Building the set is easy, particularly with the intuitive instruction booklet, but when you're finished it feels a little flimsy and incomplete in comparison to the more traditional LEGO sets of my youth. When you're building a medieval castle, for example, the end result is pretty sturdy and robust to use as a playset. But this floating village, without the sea or water, feels more like a couple of open platforms on stilts, with lots of movable small parts like fish to hunt. It's not that the set can't be played with by children, but it's not robust in the way that an actual building would be. It's like the frame of a playset rather than something complete. That said, my 14-year-old son loved building this and collecting it. He wants other Avatar 2 LEGO sets now. So the intended audience will probably love it.

A little basic but bright and colourful, kids will love the decorative pieces
This LEGO Avatar reef home playset comes beautifully presented as I would expect from LEGO. I was amused to see the warning on the box that the model does not float, despite it having notable underwater elements and picturing the figures swimming and canoeing.Constructing the set didn't take my niece and nephew very long, an hour or two - it's not a complicated build, with the main structure being very straightforward. Most of the fun comes from adding the detail, they loved the little plants and fishes. It's a big plus point that four minifigures are included, as there's plenty of space to accommodate them in the home and accessories to pose them doing a variety of activities, it means the set never looks empty.Overall this set has that quality LEGO feel about it though I can't help wishing it was bigger and more intricate, perhaps with larger blue sections representing the surface of the water. Ultimately there's more fun to be had playing with the set than building it, but that's not a bad thing - it does provide a nice base for kids to play with and is as bright and colourful as any LEGO Friends set.
