I'm pleased with this product.
Used solely for spreading rock salt.It works really well, and you use less, due to an even distribution.

Perhaps it will not snow now !!!
I bought this in anticipation of it snowing this winter but it has not done so yet.I have given it a "dry run" with a salt grit mix with the largest opening selected, I also tried it with some sand I had left over from the drive blocks. So far my only concern is that the hinges that open the top are not really hinges but a thinner bit of plastic and I am not sure how these will stand up to much use. If you want one of these search for the best price as they vary tremendously for the same item from the same manufacturer.I will update this review when/if I use it in anger.

Brilliant piece of kit!
Bought 2 of these but wasn't too sure how long they would last when they arrived. So easy to use (remember to make sure the holes are closed before filling). Been an absolute godsend, very economical and surprising how much coverage you get. Sturdier than they look. Gone are the days of lugging a wheelbarrow and shovel around! One in each hand and you have a walk and work out at the same time :-) Would highly recommend

DOESNT STAY SHUT !
I bought 2 to several years ago, and always had a problem with the clips which hold the clamshell shut. I ordered this one as it looked like to be a different design, it isn't and has the same issue that the clamshell clips at the top are not robust enough and the unit comes open when you shake it up and down to spread the salt. It works as a salt spreader, needs a redesign of the closure

Happy in the end.
Was ok 2nd time as the original arrived with half the top missing. I couldn't believe someone would box it up when it was missing a piece.

Clever design but could be improved
This product does what it says it does. Solid build, good capacity and easy to hold.Downsides are that selecting the right hole setting underneath is tricky to get right. Open it too quickly, as is easy done, and it dumps a load of salt before you can close it again. Turn the tub upside down, or on its side, to see where the hole setting is and it dumps a load of salt out of the lid/handle. Takes a little bit of getting used to but when you get it, it's easy to spread the salt where you need it and clear steps/paths around your home.

Works perfectly
Much better than scooping salt back and forth to a bin or from a heavy pail.

Produit conforme
Produit pour disperser le sel que ce soit sur la route ou dans des mauvaises herbes. Très bien. Solide mais je trouve le produit un peu cher pour du plastic dur.

A must-have for walkways AND driveways
This is a very well designed tool, and it's helping me get much more mileage out of my salt supply (which is being consumed by this New England winter we're having). When I first read that it holds 10 lbs. of salt, I thought that was not enough, but I was wrong -- it's just the right amount. That weight lets you shake and spread the salt easily. In the past, anything I tried (including flinging the salt by hand) proved to be inaccurate and wasteful. I'd get little piles of salt right next to bare spots. And I'd end up using way more than was necessary (basically, just from putting down too much trying to cover the bare spots). With this, I get a very even spread very easily from the start, and every pound of salt is obviously a) covering more square feet than before and b) leaving no bare spots. This is particularly important for my 50 foot driveway. It's packed gravel, which "eats" salt much faster than pavement. If I can't get the right spread much of my salt will be wasted, then I'll run out, Home Depot won't have any left, etc. I've found that, if I just focus on the two tire tracks, I can get the driveway done with this device in about 15 minutes, and it takes me about seven or eight refills at most (about two 40 lb. bags) to get a nice, dense coating that cuts through the snow and ice and keeps working for days on the gravel. Very gratifying! My only concern: the top is hinged on two sides (with a split down in the middle of the top) and the "hinges" are actually just molded plastic. So, you're bending plastic over and over again each time you open it and I wonder how long that will last. But I've opened it dozens of times with no actual signs of wear, so I'm not going to worry about it.Simple, reliable device that just works and is very easy to use.

Plastic Hinge
Too much comes off the shaker also if you have adjusted to very small. The plastic hinge part is no good it breaks easy had to duct tape it. Not worth for $110. Should be made stronger & less price for plastic

Lol...used this all winter and forgot to review it
We had a lot of snow this winter and a lot of days where it snowed, then was warm, and then freezing cold again.....making for a lot of slippery ice. This little item really helped ALOT with spreading salt evenly. Spreading the salt evenly with something like this makes it a lot more effective than simply throwing handfuls of it. What happens when you throw it randomly is it tends to clump together unevenly. Some areas have too much salt and others not enough. You get stubborn patches of unmelted ice plus salt piles people step in and drag into the house. This device solves that problem cheaply and efficiently. It's very good and spreading the salt evenly...which is a lot more effective and the salt goes further when you have to cover large areas. I found it especially effective with calcium salt (which is expensive but worth it), particularly on thick, hard to remove patches of ice. I actually purchased a propane ice melter this year and didn't use it once because this cheap device was so effective with the salt.
