Buy the Updated version
After receiving my kit (the "New" version) I immediately started checking the items out, here is my general over view, with a break down after words. The case being water tight is the best feature of this kit - however description says its a "zipper case" - the new and updated models are not. The Multi-tool is about useless, the "bottle" clip is useless, the card multi-tool is redundant and lack luster, the mini key chain light is acceptable for its size, same with the flashlight. 2 ferro rods, one on a paracord bracelet that includes a second compass. Compass on a carabiner is acceptable with some minor annoyances. out of the box Knife was completely dull, emergency blanket is on the small side, same with the poncho. The GoodThe water tight case - this should be the main reason you buy this kit. Compact, with some protective foam on the inside. Rubber gasket that fits very tight. only down side is the four locking clips that keeps the unit closed- for one to break the integrity of the case would be compromised.Ferro Rods - Having multiple ways to start a fire in a kit is a boon. one is fashioned into a bracelet using paracord, with one of the buckles containing a mini compass. had to shake the compass a little bit before it started to function, setting it down for a bit necessitated another quick shake for it to update. This fero rod set is also on the small side making it difficult to use, however this is forgiven given the fact its on your wrist and saves some time digging in a pack, and is easily included into edc.Emergancy Blanket and Poncho - Given that most retailers sell small emergency blankets for $9 bucks and up (based on size) and while some adult ponchos can be had for as little as $4, these are still great additions to warrant the price of this unit. The Wire saw - Having a small dedicated lumber cutting tool that doesn't take up as much space as a folding tree saw is excellent. It is on the small side, so no felling 4' diameter trees with it.The 2 flashlights - take the key ring flashlight out and move it to your key ring, you'll get more use out of it there than keeping it in the kit or on you camping/bug out bag. The other flashlight runs off 1 single AA battery. Not the brightest, but not bad either- expect good visibility in about 8 to 10 feet. The MediocreAlcohol pad and band aid - the band aid pack is somewhat of a mystery item, but falls way short of something to include in a premade "survival kit". The alcohol are still something nice to have, useful in many ways. Move them to your actual first aid kit (should include a tourniquet)The Knife - 100% not necessary. Has a sudo carabiner clip built into the blade retention/release mechanism, but also has a belt clip. Not as dull as the other blades in the kit, but still needed to be sharpened. Quality on mine was lacking, as the tip had a fairly large bur sticking off of it that required me to file down before being able to use the knife.safety whistle- another item to add to your keys, however, the compass bracelet also has one. how many items do you actually need on your key ring? The BadCarabiner compass - While having multi-compass options is good, and having it on a carabiner makes allows it to be placed just about any where on your bag, the glue on mine failed, and the outer wring which one would think is rotate able, is not. Compass on updated version seems to be bigger, and a little more robust. The milti-tools - The fold out pliers would be a nice addition if they functioned well. the added tools in the handles were so tight I had to use the other credit card multi-tool to even open it up. The chain included on it failed after only a slight stress test. Both have created options for limb trimming, but there size make this option very limited and niche. Both blades were way to dull, couldn't even cut the tape on an amazon box. at least in the updated version EMDAK corrected the mistake in the pliers MT and removed it. However, they don't seem to have replaced it with anything.Bottle clip - this item is completely useless for a kit like this. Made to go around bottles of water so that a person can carry said bottle on the belt. Its fair to reason most people looking at kits like this have already invested into life straws or other portable water filtration units along with bags that accommodate water bladders. The "updated" version would seem like a "less" bang for the buck deal, however it removes many of the items deemed bad or unnecessary in the "new" version. With the removal of so much of the redundancy I would have like to see that they added in at least one more "survival" item. Such as 20 or 30 feet of 600lb fishing line with hooks and weights.

Cheap stuff. Worth the money though.
The stuff is cheap and the pictures are kind of misleading. HOWEVER, overall, I'm pretty satisfied with what I received for the money that I spent. The knife is possibly the cheapest one I have ever seen... But it's very sharp. Will do in an emergency. (I always carry a knife anyway.)The mulittool is very small, it actually comes on a keychain (Seems sturdy enough though). Will work for me... I'm putting together my fishing bag. Not doomsday prepping. The idea of a flint inside of a bracelet seems cool, but in practice, it's awkward af to strike it. The only time I would ever use this is if I unravel the "paracord" (cheap, but again, very useful in a pinch).Fire starter is large, scraper has teeth on one side and seems like it will work reasonably well. Whistle (room inside for a few matches), carabineer (not for climbing stamped prominently on the side), wire saw, flashlight, compass, poncho, emergency blanket, couple band aids, pretty much as advertised. Credit card tool is very cool, definitely going in my wallet. The case seems very solid, doesn't take up much space, full of useful stuff, definitely worth the space in your bag, especially if you have some better quality stuff and are using this as a backup. Worth the money IMO.

Looks great! Gift for someone.
Everything looks great got it for a birthday gift. The One thing I noticed was missing was that it didn't have a cord strap on the case like it shows in the photo. Don't have time to return birthday party tomorrow. So they'll have to find a way to carry/strap it some how. Which is a bummer.

Always been a fan
I have gotten these before, I am actually a big fan of it because it's not breaking your bank but it's also a great helper for your survival bag. It's got everything included from flint strikers to handheld tools. Just a cheap but very effective survival kit to feed the inner survivalist. One complaint I have about it though is the picture displays a pocket knife that comes with it however, mine did not come with a pocket knife but it did have a lot of gear I forgot about like a compass and other small items...

Keep it in the car for emergencies
Got this to keep in the car in case of emergencies. Everything seems to be of good quality so far. Won't really know until we have to use it, but hopefully we don't have to.

Good value and sturdy enough for emergency, if not regular use.
Firestarter, compass, blanket, saw, and carrying case were all better quality than I was expecting at this price. The carrying case has 4 clips with a rubber o-right seal that would probably keep things dry in any conditions short of complete submersion. The steel card multi tool is too small to be useful as a wrench (I don't see nuts that small day to day), but the can opener, saw, and knife edges would do what they're meant to. The multi-tool pliers feel a little cheap, but are definitely sturdy enough for occasional use. The flashlight was brighter than I expected. Whistle is loud, and made of plastic with a tiny compartment. This is good value for the price. Everything in here is worth it's weight to carry around. I added the following items which all easily fit into the included case: Iodine water tablets for up to 25 quarts, 2nd mylar blanket (to use as a shelter), 10 ft 550 paracord, fire tinder in waterproof bag, steri-strips, adhesive bandages. This will go into my day-hike pack along with a solar/crank powered cell phone charger/flashlight.
