This is where having elders is helpful. So much information is lost without knowledge being taught from the old to the young. I'm over 50 and just learned about the uses of Mineral Oil. It's incredible stuff. It's equally wonderful on wood butcher block/furniture/trim/bowls/etc. as it is on stainless steel. Please look up the uses for this stuff, you'll buy a gallon like I just did.

I used this to seal the inside of a large raised garden bed made of cedar wood. It has no smell and I liked the look of the wood after sealing. A couple of days after applying it, I sprayed a few random areas with water and it seems to have sealed well, with the water not being absorbed into the wood.

They sell expensive oils to treat sauna benches to repel water and dirt. Marketed as "Paraffin Oil", which means very different things to different people. In USA, "paraffin oil" is lamp oil - you DO NOT want hydrocarbons in your sauna. In Europe, Paraffin oil is - highly refined mineral oil - just like food grade mineral oil here in US. I put on a heavy coat on all horizontal surfaces, let it soak in, wiped off all excess. No smell, can't tell the "seat" difference (not hotter). Perfect, at 1/10th the cost of "sauna oil".
