Awesome Rod and does what it’s supposed to. Great price
Amazing Berkeley Rod. Paired with a size 5000-7500 reel “I used an 6000” and you can shore, surf, pier or jetty fish with confidence. Love the white color it helps see big hits late at night and it’s very sturdy. Its tip is not as fast as an ugly stick but no where near as stiff as a down-rigger or jigging or trolling rod. With 20 lb line I was consistently tossing 40-60 yard casts easily with no worry of popping the line or snapping the rod with both 2 and 3oz weights and I would not hesitate to use 4oz as well. I casted bunker on large striper circle Hooks size 5/6 and 7 hooks so nice chunks and also whole squid and whole belly clams and it’s seems to cast the same distance unlike if it was a very soft fast flimsy tip which seems to cast farther with lighter bait and poor cast with heavy bait. This rod doesn’t care what on the end of the hook and cast equally impressive.Landed a larger stripper first nite out from a jetty and landed 2 huge sand sharks approaching 20lbs and the Rod handled them with ease.Ordering another one and going to pair it with a penn 7500 reel with bait runner. Just to good of a Rod to not have 2. This finishes my salt water package now with two 8’ three 7’ one 9’ and one 10’. After falling for these 8’ I’ve relegated my trusty 7’ foot rods to lure only like poppers and sp minnow and spoons. They seem to cast better with lures and the extra 1’ and stiffness of this 8’ berkley makes me feel confident that even a 40+ pound stripper is coming home with me and I’m not losing the rod or line or reel. Sometimes I don’t want to fish with a 10’ or even a 9’ Rod as they are big and clumsy and I don’t need 75-100 yard cast. 8’ is the perfect size to be nimble yet have the same ability in power as a nice 9 or 10’ with only minuscule less casting distance. It does make you feel a lot more secure versus having a 7’ which even ugly sticks and a nasty big gorilla blue or cow stripper I’ve seen them snap in twolove this rod!!!!Thanks Berkley for such a great rod and I’m a customer for life

Great rod for the money
Hands down the best heavy game rod you can buy. Its more of a wait and bait rod, I would not want to cast this all day throwing lures. My son and I loaded up 2oz weights to see how far we could cast, and we got in the 80/90 yard range (30lb braid on 6k size reels) without breaking the rods. Very durable product. I was hoping one would explode. But for the cost, I'm going to use it as a wait and bait for large catfish/striped bass/whatever is dumb enough to bite. No way I could cast it for a long period of time.

Appears To Be Well Made
Some reviewers stated that the product was damaged when received. However, mine arrived with no damage whatsoever. Upon closer inspection, the rod appears to be very well made. No nicks or scratches, the line guides are solidly attached, the handle is perfect, and the reel seat is precise and perfectly aligned with the first line guide. Some reviewers said they were disappointed by the fact that there are no metal-to-metal connection for the two pieces. Personally, I think metal-to-metal reduces "feel", so I am pleased with a fiberglass-to-fiberglass connection. In all, this is a good, solid rod that is a fantastic value for the money.Readers should note that the photo on Amazon does not match the product.

Big, Tough & Casts a Long Way!!
I bought the 8 footer. For those interested in the specs, It's lure rating is 1 - 4 oz, 12 - 30 lbs line, Medium Heavy power and Moderate Fast action. It's not light nor heavy. It's solid and tough and not easy to break at all. It's handle is big and man this rod casts like an absolute dream. It's too easy to cast good distances with this which maybe my favourite attribute of this rod - really super long casts. This is the best cheap product I have ever bought paying $26 bucks. Use it for what it's designed for and you won't be disappointed! I'd say the main weak point of this is that because of it's very flexible tip, it's not suited for working your bigger size poppers. Caught 35 lbs Tarpon on Stickbait with this thing so it can handle some big game stuff. My biggest catch with this has been a 74 lbs Eagle Ray. This rod can really bend and lift!!

Nice rods for the money, but they are very big
These rods are actually a pretty good quality for what they charge. If you're looking for a large pole to go after very large fish, these are a really nice value. Just beware that they are really big. They have a much larger circumference than I anticipated, and I was looking for more of a medium sized pole, to me these would be large size for sure. I ended up keeping them though because they are nice poles at a good value. Actually brought in a 7-ft nurse shark on them no problem.

Big bang for the buck!
Here’s the thing, I’ve read the lowest reviews. The problem isn’t the rod, it the mail system. If you get your rod damaged it’s who brought it to you. It’s not the fault of the rod.For the cost of a meal at the local burger joint, you get a pretty good rod. When you get a rod and look at the weights of 15-30. Theat high number is the maximum. And in reality that means you should expect proper results in the middle range of those numbers. But let’s say you do hook into a 25 pound catfish and you hall back like you are lifting a 50 pound weight. Guess what? You just exceeded the maximum rating on the rod. It’s simple math people. Use you head for something besides a hat rack. It’s called playing the fish, it’s an art form and practice of patience. I’ve landed 30 pound fish with ultra light gear.and enjoyed the entire 2 hours of play. Try it, you’ll enjoy it too.

Nice rod for some heavyweight fishing.
Using a 3000 reel with 30 pound braided line, throwing a 1.2 ounce washer for practice. It took a little practice, but now I can throw this line a mile. It’s great.

Sturdy rod
Rod is more suited for trolling or drop fishing from pier/rocks. Not ideal for casting long distance from the shore, but it'll still do the job. I found it to be sturdy and durable but a bit on the heavier side.
