The Tudor Child: Clothing and Culture 1485 to 1625 Paperback – April 15, 2013

Another fantastic book by the Tudor Tailors. A fasinating dicussion of childhood during the reigns of Henry VIII thru James V/ I. Children, as expected, wore hand-me-downs and repurposed garments, so their clothing was a little old-fashioned compared to adults.As is the pattern in thier earlier books, the first section is text about the subject: infants and toddlers, small boys and youth (up to 12 years), small girls and youth (up to 12 years) and a chaper on fabics and colors worn by children of various social classes.The second section covers the construction of the garments and includes a step-by-step on how to properly swaddle a baby. (The child falls asleep while being swaddled.)The chapters in this section cover underwear and basic garments, outer clothes worn by ordinary boys and girls, outer clothes worn by elite children; and a final chapter on accessories such as aprons, hats and hoods.

Wow! This definitely belongs in the library of anyone interested in historic costuming and how people lived and dressed in the clothing of the time. There are sections on babies, toddlers, children 4 to 12 years, fabrics and colors. Full of color pictures of scraps of clothing, paintings of children, descriptions of why they were clothed the way they were, 4 pages of of 16th century names for fabrics, colors and their uses. In Constructing the Garments, contains every pattern, technique and how to, you could want to make these items. including pictures of how to properly swaddle a baby. Quite overdone from what is typical today.

Wonderful book filled with visual and written construction information!!! I love the fact that different social classes of children are represented. Highly recommend this book as it helps to fill a void for patterns and information about children's clothing from this time period.

So many wonderful things to learn. Children's treatment and clothing are rather a mystery, because it's not covered as thoroughly as the adult world from that era. Very informative and beautiful pictures that help to further the text. I knew that it would be awesome, because I already own "The Tudor Tailor" which is equally awesome! Mikhalia and Huggett should be very proud of they're hard work.

A beautiful book . The lace is almost touchable. Glorious photography......a very respectful attitude aboutclothing of the past and it's relation to society.

チューダー時代の子供服の型紙と完成した衣装の写真が豊富で、かなり充実した内容だと思います。子供服といっても当時は大人の衣裳と同じデザインでそのまま子供サイズにしたものですから、大人の衣裳のための資料としても十分に役立ちそうです。完成した衣装を着た子供たちのかわいい写真がいっぱいで、見ているだけでも楽しいです。

Well researched and beautifully illustrated. There are good references for those wishing to delve deeper into the subject, but it would also be of interest to the general reader who just wants to understand how Tudor infants and children were dressed. I have not attempted any recreations of clothing, but the instructions look clear.

I was nice souvenir for my wife as she is interesting of medieval live and history of clothing and normal live accessories. Do not advice for people looking "how to" but if you interesting to get some invention and Ideas based on the past time - you will find it here
