Now works with HomeKit or Apple devices
Update: I upgraded my home WiFi and that seems to have solved the problem. Everything works great. Original review: I bought 9 bulbs and added each to HomeKit; however, as soon as I did all the bulbs were unreachable and could not be controlled with the app. The bulbs would only respond to turning the physical light switch on or off. I tried resetting several times and the lights remained unreachable each time. I paired the bulbs with an Android tablet and connected over Bluetooth and I was able to control the lights and update the firmware. Even with the latest firmware the bulbs will not connect to Apple devices or HomeKit. The only reason I bought these bulbs was to use them with HomeKit. So since that’s not working there’s no point to using these over regular cheap bulbs.

Great and straightforward
They work great, vibrant colors, good app, easy to setup.

They work, easy to set up with HomeKit.
There is definitely something to be said for sticking with brands. I've had a bunch of different Matter bulbs over the past few years. Most of them not terribly reliable. But the latest from Nanoleaf seem to be the best so far that I've tried. So I'm going to stick with them as long as they remain easy to add to my home automation system, and that keep a good strong connection so I don't have a bunch of un-responsive lights. Now the switches I've used with a couple of non-smart bulbs can be put to use somewhere else. another side benefit of using smart bulbs.

Stay away from Nanoleaf Essentials Matter over wifi bulbs.
Nanoleaf Essentials Bulbs Review: Thread vs. WiFi Comparison ## Shared Strengths Both the Matter over Thread and Matter over WiFi versions of Nanoleaf Essentials bulbs offer: - Seamless pairing with Apple Home and Hubitat - Rich colors with granular control over color and temperature - Adequate brightness (though this is subjective—I personally prefer dimmer lighting) ## Matter over Thread Version: Recommended The Thread-based bulbs have been consistently reliable in my smart home setup, maintaining stable connections and responding promptly to commands. ## Matter over WiFi Version: Not Recommended After three months of troubleshooting with Nanoleaf support, I cannot recommend the WiFi versions due to persistent connectivity issues: ### Connectivity Problems - Bulbs disconnect regularly, typically staying connected for only 12-16 hours - Current workaround requires physically turning them off for 30 seconds to reconnect ### Excessive Requirements (According to Nanoleaf Support) Nanoleaf claims these bulbs require: - Placement more than 25 feet from routers and other WiFi devices - No Zigbee devices in the environment - All network devices on 2.4 GHz only (5 GHz network must be inactive) - No WiFi 6 or WiFi 7 in the environment - Manual IP assignment on your router -All devices in the network must use WPA2 security. WPA3 cannot be active. Despite meeting these requirements, the connectivity issues persist. My requests to have them replaced with the Thread version have been unsuccessful. ## Conclusion For those interested in Nanoleaf Essentials bulbs, I strongly recommend the Matter over Thread version. The Matter over WiFi version, despite sharing the same quality of light, has proven unreliable and difficult to maintain in a typical smart home environment.

Vibrant Colors and Easy Setup, But Requires Continuous Power
Pros: - Rich color options with 16M+ RGBW colors - Simple HomeKit setup - More affordable compared to other smart bulbs on the market Cons: - Requires constant power to the lamp - Response time can be slow Insights: The Nanoleaf Smart LED A19 is a versatile smart bulb that shines with its vibrant colors and easy integration with Apple HomeKit. However, its design only draws power from the lamp it is installed in. So, like all electronics, continuous power is crucial for maintaining its connection to HomeKit. If the lamp's power is turned off, then you will lose connectivity and all home automation integration. You must use the Apple Home app, Siri, or another compatible home automation platform to control the on/off function of the bulb. It's also worth noting that you may experience slower than expected response times when using this bulb with Apple HomeKit. On the positive side, it is considerably less expensive than other smart bulbs on the market. Overall the Nanoleaf Smart LED A19 is a solid choice for enhancing your smart home lighting.

Worth it
It was a needed change to improve my sleep hygiene. Instead of having my old LED bulbs blasting into my eyesight at night. I now have low dim lights that get me ready for bed.

Bought these to replace dying Philips Hue bulbs and they work great with Apple Home. Very happy with my purchase. Will probably buy more when I need more lightbulbs. It is a little unfortunate though that they don’t seem to be compatible with Apple’s auto light temperature in the Home app, but it’s not a big deal.

The Nanoleaf Essentials Smart LED colour-changing bulbs work well in practice. They fit standard fixtures, make existing lights smart, and deliver vibrant colours with a useful range of warm to cool whites. Control through Apple Home is reliable and responsive. The main drawback is the Nanoleaf app, which continues to prompt device setup even after months of stable use in HomeKit. For users who prefer Apple Home, the app feels buggy and unnecessary. Broader, default support for Matter over Thread across the range would significantly improve the experience, particularly in mixed installations with older Thread-based Nanoleaf Essentials bulbs. In my setup, the Thread bulbs respond faster and more consistently than the Wi-Fi versions, despite running on a robust Ubiquiti UniFi Wi-Fi 7 network. Overall, the hardware performs well, but the software experience falls short. Based on past experience with other Nanoleaf products, long-term reliability remains a concern.
