DERN GOOD STUFF
OUTSTANDING PRODUCT! I use it every month. However, I do prefer to use the Ortho Dial n Spray over the MG Garden Sprayer. The object, here, is to get a 20 oz packet of crystals, and exactly 40 gallons of water onto 1800 square feet of lawn (based on one gallon every 45 square feet) using the Ortho Dial n Spray, instead of the MGro Garden Sprayer. I might be able to explain where all these numbers come from. Maybe, that will help some folks. On the label it says ½ oz (1 Tbspn) for every gallon. It also says that one gallon covers 45 square feet (SF). Think of it as “1/2 oz = 1 gal = 45 SF.” If you multiply all three of these factors by 40, you will get “20 oz = 40 gals = 1800 SF”. And, of course, it just so happens, the 1800 also comes from ¼ of 7200. Each packet is 20 ounces. That comes from the fact that there are 4 packets in a 5 pound box. Each packet, then, is 1 and ¼ lbs, or 20 ounces. So, what they are trying to tell you is PUT 40 GALS OF WATER OUT THERE FOR EACH 20 OUNCE PACKET. This is apparently saying that the 40 gallons creates the perfect combination and mixture. So, how do you get the 40 gallons? I don’t walk around with a gallons-used indicator. And where does this 12 minute “thingy” come from? Well, here’s your answer. It comes from the Miracle Gro feeder. If you do a “Bucket test” on this particular feeder, you will find out that it kicks out water at a rate of exactly 3.3 gallons per minute. You cannot control that. You cannot change that. There is no dial. Now, dividing 40 (gals) by 3.3 (gals per min) gives you 12.1 (minutes). So, that’s where the “about 12 minutes” comes from. By limiting yourself to 12 minutes, you are stopping the process at 40 gallons of water, the perfect combination. So, stop watering at that point. Again, this is for a NEW lawn where you are diluting the “medicine” because it is NEW. You are spreading it out over 1800 square feet. If you are working on an older lawn that says “give me all you got,” then don’t change any numbers. Just do it over a 1000 SF area, instead of 1800 square feet. It will still take 12 minutes, and it will still require the 20 ounces of blue stuff. That gives you more medicine, still a perfect proportion over 1000 square feet. Alright now, there are those of you out there that don’t trust that Miracle Gro feeder, including me, because (1) it leaks, and (2) with all that blue stuff left over after 12 minutes I don’t trust this feeder. So, how do I use the Ortho Dial N Spray? A bucket test on this gizmo yields exactly 2.5 gals per minute. Don’t trust the people that say “about 2 gals per minute.” It is 2 and ½ gallons per minute. Two gallons in 48 seconds works out to 2 and ½ gallons per minute. Also, 10 quarts in one minute works out to 2 and ½ gallons per minute. More new problems. You will never be able to get 20 oz of blue stuff to dilute into the Ortho container. You’ll have to split it in half, and do your lawn twice. Plus, because it only kicks out 2.5 gallons per minute, that means it will take you sixteen minutes (instead of about 12) to whittle through a 20 ounce packet. I also limit myself to 10 ounces of blue stuff in the container with 32 ounces of water, and do the same 1000 square foot area twice at 8 minutes each. Granted, this is not practical if you have 5000 square feet of lawn or more. So, spread it out over a couple of days! Do what you gotta do to get 20 ounces on 1000 square feet using 40 gallons of water. That WILL take 12 minutes using the Miracle Gro garden feeder, or 16 minutes using the Dial N Spray.

This batch is different color!
I have been using Miracle Gro on my grass and shrubs for several years. A great product! However the last bag that I got was not the dark green color that I have gotten every time in the past. It also has a somewhat different texture. What is up with that? Is the product weaker or what? I would like to have an answer to this question Mr seller! Please respond!Thank OLD SCHOOL, Boy.May 30: a 2024Well it has been 6 days since I left the review on miracle grow, not a word from seller, what does that say about concern for buyer and quality control of this company. I know that fertilizer company that owns miracle grow, we all know them! I guess they choose to stay silent. That figures! All I would like to have is an answer!!!!!!!

It works.
No one paid me for this review. We moved into a house this winter without knowing the status of the lawn. I can’t even describe my dismay when spring came and we had the BIGGEST spot of dead grass. It was not dormant. It was dead and it grew bigger. We also had lots of weeds. I did the soil ph/nitrogen tests and all that stuff. They all turned out normal for my type of grass and climate. I was advised to do weed and feed which killed the weeds but did nothing to the dead spot. I literally searched “can I put miracle grow on my lawn” because I was that desperate (the answer to that is NO you shouldn’t put the plant food kind on your lawn) HOWEVER this popped up in my search. The biggest draw was that from what I read about it and also according to the instructions it’s super hard to actually hurt your lawn with this, so I figured I might as well try. And I’m so happy I did. Within maybe 10 days the dead spot slowly disappeared as new grass grew in. I had to de-thatch it a few times just to get the old dead grass out. Also I did not plant grass seed as I didn’t know what the issue was with the dead grass so I didn’t want to waste money planting grass that might not grow. I don’t know how but this brought my dead lawn back to life. I’ve had people come up to me who have lived in the neighborhood forever saying they have never seen this yard without that dead spot. Oh also I was super cheap so I didn’t even use a sprayer with a hose. I literally measured it per the directions and used my 2 gallon watering can. I mainly treated the spot initially but once I saw how well it worked I put it on my lawn. That took a ton of time though so just splurge on a sprayer if you can. Either way if you’ve tried everything and don’t want to get sucked into a super expensive lawn care service just try this.
