This product is cut licorice root (cut and sifted to be precise). In this form, it is ideal for brewing tea, as the extraction is much faster and more complete. It can be measured directly into your brewing setup and as “loose leaf” will require strainer. It has recognizable complex aroma and a slightly sweet taste (caffeine free). Glycyrrhiza glabra is the scientific name, and the sweet taste comes from glycyrrhizin, which is up to 50 times sweeter than natural sugar. This gives it a pleasant natural flavor, and also has some purported health benefits. Some claim that licorice root helps to curb appetites, reduce indigestion, aid in weight loss, and even help with ulcers! Because of the tremendously powerful glycyrrhizin, there are some populations that should avoid using licorice root, and all people should ingest the licorice plant in limited quantities.
