Hummingbird bakery sold my all time favourite red velvet cake and sadly I moved really far away from all the branches. Time to make them at home! I already know and trust this brand as I used to work as a cake decorator professionally and this is the range we used across our all stores due to the extremely high quality. It is absolutely perfect for red velvet cake as it doesn't give its own flavour even when adding a high quantity unlike shop bought food colouring. My recipe called for 40g of food colouring, but under 20g of sugarflair (I didn't measure it, I'm just judging it on around half a pot being used) was more than sufficient and next time I will use even less. I highly advise regular bakers to invest in a set of sugarflair colours. To dye sponge cakes requires a fair amount of dye but icing requires an absolutely tiny amount, literally just dipping a toothpick in the pot and wiping it into the dye and mixing in just that amount is enough for a vibrant colour so even the small pots last for a very long time. 10/10 highly recommend.

The only black colour I use when I need to make my own black buttercream or ganache (for fondant icing just buy precoloured).If you give it a helping hand by letting the colour sit and develop overnight, and add it to a chocolate buttercream as the cocoa powder helps it look far deeper and darker. Brilliant and worth the money

It’s actually black!!!So hard to make black buttercream but this works amazing. Made the night before works great with dark cocoa left overnight and BAM! Black black black I used quite a bit but was so pleased. One happy 16 year old birthday girl! Worth every penny.

Like many people, I need to know that the food colouring I'm buying will cook up an industrial quantity of quality prop claret to use liberally in a horror film. It's an age-old problem that this product has solved. Only downsides are it required vigorous stirring to dissolve the paste into corn-syrup, which added a lot of air to my mix, but the colour is tippety top. It should adequately horrify people in a cinema near you soon...

Amazing product after loads of google searching to find out how to make buttercream white this product came out on top just for the ease of use... simply add to buttercream, blend and job done, I used the full tub in a 5x buttercream recipe I also blended the butter on its own till it was as light in colour as I could get it. Very happy and would recommend!!

True Red! Easily made a red velvet recipe with a small amount. No issues with flavour the cakes were loved by everyone. Very pleased after some disappointing results with some other brands. I’ve given it full stars for value for money as you get great results unlike some cheaper ones I’ve tried

Bought for making my daughter the special cake she wanted while celebrating her 15th birthday while in lockdown! She wanted black buttercream icing, I thought that this being extra black would be perfect for getting that super black colour! Boy, was I disappointed, it took a hell of a lot of the paste & even then it wasn't black!. I must have used a third of the tub to get it just to a darkish grey. I had to stop there, I was concerned about the amount I would need to add to get it to black. So instead of the black iced cake, she got a darkish grey one instead which she thought was ok, thankfully the cake itself was delish which made up for any disappointment she had hidden. I asked her how many stars and she said 3, personally I would like to have given it 1 star.

Have been looking for a red food colouring that would make a decent red velvet cake (rather than a sludgy brown one) and this was perfect.Arrived in a couple of days and was well packaged to protect it. It's relatively small for the price but it's definitely worth it.
