The Twelve Dancing Princesses Paperback – Picture Book, October 19, 1998

The book was described as being in "good" condition with signs of wear from consistent use, and possible limited highlighting and notes.The book wasn't just worn, it felt gritty when I pulled it out of the shipping bag. As I cleaned off the cover, I saw on the bottom edge of the pages spots that looked like mold. I had to clean them off with bleach water. Most of the stains came off, but there are still some stains I can't remove.The book itself has gorgeous illustrations. I had read the story before, enjoyed it, and wanted my own copy.

I purchased many years ago for my nieces, and now again for my granddaughter (age 3), and again for a neighbor's child. The prose is too lengthy for toddlers and pre-schoolers, so I have always just "read" the story in a few sentences per page - they are so enchanted by the pictures that it is their favorite book.

One of my favorite childhood books. The art is gorgeous and the story amazing.

I’m not sure why this particular fairytale is not as popular as others, but I have always loved this story since I was a child. This is quite a unique princess story!

In the original version, suitors trying to discover the mystery of the princesses were put to death by the king upon failing. In this version, they somehow become a permanent part of the dancing in the magical shadow kingdom and just disappear?! It’s a poor, illogical modification of the story to avoid saying the king put them to death.

This was for a gift. I liked the illustrations and that the writer made changes to the Grimm brothers version which made it more appropriate for young children than the story I read as a child.

I am SO elated Amazon had this book. It was one of my absolute favorites as a little girl. The storyline, THE ARTWORK, everything. I am so grateful to be able to share this with my little one now.

A beautifully illustrated book with the enchanting fairytale of The Twelve Dancing Princesses. Every morning the girls are coming home late and their father is going frantic about the cost of their shoe bills. Father wants to know what the girls are up to until the early hours of the morning to wear their shoes out so much and so quickly, so the girls are followed and the youngest daughter finds a suitor in hot pursuit. Perhaps she will find love. A story at its' best.

In my view this is a better version of this Grimm Bros fairy tale than the Errol Le Cain version, and that's saying something. The illustrations are as luscious as a pound of damsons. Taken as naturalistic illustrations, in fact, they are a high-point of book illustration by any standard and in any age - just sumptuous. Nor do they take over the text -they properly illuminate it, and the text on its own is full and intriguing.I congratulate the publishers on this production. I'd give it 50, not 5 stars!

Bought a few of these books, all of which are similar. The books are nice but as often with "children's" books, you pay a lot of money for what is basically a thin magazine. Put another way, if you saw the same item in a shop you would probably not give it a second look. That's why I don't think it's worth more than 2 stars. Having said that the granddaughter liked it.

Beautiful book arriving in super quick time just as described on Amazon. The illustrations are exquisite and compliment a beautiful age old tale well. Excellent stuff

I've never read this story, until I purchased this book. Loved the illustrations and the story was pretty cool.
