Sets Star Nuts Flawlessly
I purchased the Bike Hand Bicycle Fork Star Nut Setting Tool for 1-1/8 inch steerer tubes because I was upgrading my MTB forks. This is a well made & thought out tool by Bike Hand. I have purchased several tools by Bike Hand now & have been pretty impressed w/their quality, especially for the price. It’s not Park Tool quality, but it is nowhere near the prices of Park Tool either. Sure you could just put a screw in a star nut & use it to hammer the star nut into a steerer tube, but you run the risk of setting the star nut unevenly or worse yet, damaging the threads while hammering. For the home bike kit, this is one of Bike Hand’s tools I would definitely recommend. The star nut setter came w/2 star nuts. These were a definite bonus, the tool alone is worth the price.Setting a star nut w/Bike Hand’s setter is very simple & the tool sets it at the right depth needed. There is a steel tube that has an inside diameter of 1-1/8 inch on one half & is slightly narrower on the other. This provides a “ledge” that stops the tube from just sliding down the steerer tube. The star nut slides onto one end of the black plastic “plunger” of a second steel tube. This then slides into the top of the first larger tube that is already placed on the steerer tube. You use a mallet to tap down the “plunger” until it is flush w/the steel tubes & the star nut will be set to the correct depth. The video makes it look like you have to really whack the “plunger” but from my experience, if you hit it true, it does not take a lot of strength. This tool should last a long time, just don’t go bashing it. It does not take a lot of strength or power to set a star nut.Thank you for taking the time to read this review, I hope you found it helpful.

Works well, good design
Works well. Just used it one time but it's not like I'm building lots of bikes. Took less time and probably less money that taking my new fork to a shop to get it installed.

Works great, but sleeve needed a little grinding.
I just used this to set the star nut in my Rock Shox fork steer tube. The sleeve did not slide easily onto the steerer, as the inner diameter is slightly too small (or the steerer on my fork is slightly a larger outer diameter than usual). I was able to grind down some material on the tool using a Dremel. Once I did that, everything went smooth. You can just hold the steerer with one hand and hammer the nut in with minimal effort and no worry about getting it centered correctly or the depth, making it much easier than using other tools to improvise (been there, done that). The tool is designed to set the nut about 17mm from the top of the steerer, in case anyone is wondering.

Great little tool that makes the job so much easier!
For years I've been manually setting star nuts in head tubes without any setting tool. It's a pain in the butt process that easily took 15-20 minutes or more to do, with much frustration and cursing. Finally broke down and bought this tool, and now setting star nuts takes 1-2 minutes if you really, really take your time to do so. I haven't had to use it much, but when I do I'm always very happy that I have this tool for the job. It's simple and easy to use, seems to be good quality, and it makes the job so quick. If you're on the fence, just get it. You'll be happy you did- just like me. =)

Quicky installs new starnuts
Used to install a couple suspension forks on electric bikes. Installed the starnuts quick & straight. Well worth the saved time!

Works great!
For years I used the old black plastic top caps but it’s so much easier to use this for setting the star nut!

Not as intimidating as I thought
My front forks were twisted when I received my new bike. The seller sent a new set but when I attempted to install them I realized the star nut; at the time I had no idea what that piece was called, the star nut was missing.I called an LBS and they wanted me to leave the bike there, the bike is my primary transport, couldn't do that, nope.Researched the problem, watched some videos, bought a tool that would get to me quickly. Now I'm riding. And how often can you take a hammer to something you've just bought?
