They're alright, best if you are able to EQ them.
They sound good, but:- The amount of bass is low, but there is some. Low bass is to be expected from a ceiling speaker.- They are pretty bright in the 2-5khz range, not scooped like a traditional hi-fi speaker, so they might stand out when mixed with floor standing speakers.- The two speakers in the pair had a slightly different response to my ear, I needed to EQ them differently.Construction and installation:- The covers are white, and a little glossy. This makes them stand out against a matte painted ceiling when hit by sunlight.- Provided template was the right size. The speaker fit and mounted easily.- Seems like a very secure fit, the speaker is not falling out of the roof.- The speaker covers do not fix to the speakers well at all. Mine did not even come with 'adhesive'.

OK Speakers for the Money but Very Poor Grilles
I am an AV integrator and purchased both the 8" version and 10" version of these speakers for a Budget Whole Home Audio job.The main reason I choose these speakers was the price. These speakers are less than half the price of any speaker I could buy from any of my distributors. At $68/pair for the 8" speakers and $96/pair for the 10" Speakers I wasn't expecting much but I was pleasantly surprised at the sound quality. I had pretty low expectations going in but for the money these speakers sounded ok for ambient music in the kitchen, patio and bathroom. I was expecting an awful, shrilly sounding speakers but what I heard was a pleasant sounding speaker ... nothing special but then again for the money these worked fine for low volume background music. There was a reasonable amount of base (more on the 10"), decent mid's, a little bit sharp on the high's and good sound at moderate volume levels. At high volume levels the mediocrity of these speakers shows up but at lower levels they're ok.Build Quality: Yes these speakers are really cheap and it's evident in the built quality. The plastic is thin and I would consider it brittle. You have to be careful screwing the speaker clamps so you don't strip them or break them. The crossover is simply a couple of capacitors (nothing special). My biggest disappointment with these speakers is the quality of the grilles. You do get both Round and Square speaker grilles included which is a bonus. Most speakers include only round grilles and square grilles are an extra expense but Pyle includes both round and square with each set. The square grilles in my opinion are the better looking of the two options. Both grilles are made up by plastic with multiple little holes drilled in them. The grill just snaps onto the edge of the speaker assembly with very little plastic cleats. you need to be careful not to screw your speakers too tightly to your drywall ceiling otherwise your speaker flange by become deformed or may not have a sufficient enough gap to CLIP the Speaker Grill onto the rim properly. I experienced this first hand when one speaker grill wouldn't snap into place. Loosening the speaker clamp screws slightly solved the problem. If you're going to be installing these speakers outside in the elements or anywhere they will get exposed to UV Sunlight, I recommend painting the speaker grilles first. At this price I doubt the plastic is UV rated and will become brittle and fade to a yellowish bone color quickly if exposed to UV sunlight. I'm not sure how well the plastic will stand up to very cold temperatures either, it is brittle to begin with and may crack under extreme cold. While it sounds like I might be overly negative about these speakers I'm not ... For the price they are OK and will do the job for background music, just don't expect too much at this price point and have realistic expectations and you'll probably be happy with these give the price.Best Uses for these Speakers:1 - Budget Conscious: If you have a very tight budget and realistic expectations these speakers might fit the bill2 - Short Term: I wouldn't recommend installing these speakers in any home where you are going to live there a long time. If you're planning on staying a couple of years, a house flipper or home builder looking for whole home audio on a very aggressive budget these speakers could work.3 - Low Volume Background Music: For applications that require low volume, non-audiophile sound these speakers are priced right and would work well under low volume, non-critical audio conditions.Caution: These speakers are intended for a Do It Yourself Installation. If you are going to pay someone to install these speakers you may wish to purchase something a little better. If the installer has difficulty installing them, if the grilles won't stay on, if a speaker is defective you may be paying more for the installation because the installer my have to install or remove more than one pair of speakers. The sayings you have on the purchase could evaporate on the installation, removal, returns and reinstallation. For me I ended up returning both the 8" and 10" pairs of speakers. One of the woofers on the 8" inch speakers was off centered and rubbing on the side of the speaker magnet. The 10" speakers were larger diameter than indicated on the product listing, so the would have required a much bigger hole than anticipated. Lastly I just didn't like the all plastic poorly made speaker grills (prefer metal grills with fabric behind ... looks way better and usually UV Rated).I'm glad I tried these speakers. My client had a very tight budget and insisted we try these speakers first. After seeing and hearing the speakers in person he decided to increase his budget and spend a little more money.

Impressed
Really happy with the look of them. Just make sure they are well screwed in or there will be a rattle when you turn up the volume.

Serves the purpose just fine.
These speakers have been my daily drivers (pun intended) for a few years now. Installed is 8 of these 8 inch two way driver assemblies strategically placed making up my discrete home theatre and music system. Combined with two 10 inch active subwoofers, it all sounds quite good and quite full with plenty of dynamic range. I'm happy with this setup.

A great, unobtrusive speaker.
Installation was relatively easy. After finding a location between joists in the ceiling, drew the circle with the included template. Used a knife to start a hole, then used a small drywall saw to cut the hole for the speaker, just be patient and follow the line, cutting just outside the line. I had my spouse with the vacuum cleaner hose close to where I was cutting to lessen the dust blowing everywhere. I then inserted the speaker into the hole to make sure it fit snug; I used a knife to scrape a little of the drywall to make it fit just right. I then connected the wires to the speaker, and inserted the speaker back into the drywall and with a No.2 Phillips, screwed the speaker in place, while holding the speaker with the other hand. I then cleaned the speaker with a moist cloth, specially plastic around it, because of the dust in my hand. The plastic grilles just snapped into place. I turned the receiver on, and I found the sound loud, with OK bass and good treble. Voice was clear. Now, the sound was filling, but lacked bass for my taste, but because the speaker is not installed in a well designed speaker enclosure, but rather in the ceiling with an attic, it is not the perfect solution for booming bass. One thing I did noticed, was that the speaker grill vibrated with the beat of the music, so I put a small piece of foam between the tweeter and the grill. It removed the vibrations, and did not affect the high frequencies. Mine did not come with the glue for the grills. I liked the quality of the speaker, its sound, and I believe they are a great value.
