Learn the machine
After 14 months a feel I can give an honest review of this machine. My first machine was a return and swap because of needle alignment. Most of not all the issues I have faced were user error or lack of machine knowledge. First, the needle threader adventure. I installed a new needle that was not the viking needle recommended. Threader will not thread. Tension, lol nervous breakdown with this one. Proper placement of spool and bobbin winding corrected this. Learning to quilt, I kept shredding and breaking thread. Pressure foot lowering helped dramatically. Once I figured out how to adjust, uses and not used. I love it. It stitches clean, goes through whatever I quilt.

A diva of a machine but well worth the time it takes to learn.
I purchased this machine about 9 months ago. At first i was not sure I liked it but now I've learned to use most of the features and accessories i must say I love it. There have been a couple of issues, one with the needle threader alignment but Sew N Vac where I bought it fixed it in less than 5 minutes. The other problem was a loose take up lever but Sew n Vac fixed it also in a few minutes. All in all its a terrific machine. Love all the bells and whistles. I am now spoiled.

I would never purchase another Viking again!
My machine has been into the shop many times. It is unable to sew through thick layers that I need to make my bags. I am really disappointed in many of the features. The automatic threader worked for about 2 times and I had it repaired which worked once. This is to me bad designing. I tried it a third time and had the same problem. I just gave up as the rep said, it often won’t work. Bends easily. The machine skips stitches throughout my projects. I cannot believe that I cannot sew through 4 layers of fabric. I was so excited to get this brand. Now I am saddened to think that I can’t sw my passion projects with a LEMON!!! I am totally unhappy and would never suggest this brand to anyone. I want to sell it, but will not get near what I paid. I am disabled and am tight for money. I budgeted this into the little money I get. Now I’m stuck. I could just cry!!

Love/Hate relationship with the Viking Sapphire 930
I have a love/hate relationship with my Viking Sapphire 930. I purchased the machine at the Viking Sewing Gallery inside my local Joann Fabric store. The nice thing is that they had a series of classes to learn to use all of the features. The employees at VSG are very knowledgeable about the machines and accessories. The negative issues regarding this machine are with the needle threader, needle cutter, and automatic tension. The needle threader is more difficult to use than just sticking the thread through the eye of the needle. It doesn't line up properly, so usually doesn't actually thread the needle. My thread cutter literally broke apart just 23 days after I purchased the machine. It was repaired under warranty, but still doesn't work right. It's still intact, but just tangles up the thread underneath the throat plate. Then I have to cut the fabric out, take off the throat plate, remove the bobbin and casing, get the tweezers out to pull out all of the tangled thread, and replace everything. So, I don't use the thread cutter at all anymore. The automatic tension seems to work well with light layers of fabric, but not multiple layers that include batting. I have tried to manually adjust the tension setting for that, but have not been able to get it to a point where I'm satisfied.I do like the selection of stitches and the ease of selecting the pre-programmed stitches on the front of the machine. I also like the easy ability to move the needle position to the right or left of center in small increments. There is also a stitch option to be able to use the regular presser foot with the needle adjusted to create the 1/4" seam for quilt piecing. The machine came with a good selection of presser feet and accessories. I received the optional extension table as part of the sales promotion, and I love it.Would I buy this machine again? Maybe, maybe not. Most of my sewing projects require just simple straight stitches, so I could definitely get by with a less expensive machine. The ease of sewing is about the same as my $200 simple machine that I bought about 15 years ago. It's been a fun upgrade to that, but I probably should have saved a bit of money and gone with something that wasn't so expensive.

It's quite heavy to lift.
I am taking quilting classes and saw this at the shop. they were offering it for $1199.00 so I bought. It was a steal! Works great and does more than I expected.

Did I Buy A Lemon?
At first this machine was all I have dreamed about for a couple of years now. I needed that 10" for quilting and boy what a difference! Finally bought one 3 weeks ago and at first it was working great. I have now noticed than it is not as good as my Singer One (this thing is a goat and will sew anything with zero problems - I have actually made King size quilts with it and though it's a struggle with the measly 4" of space, it can and has been done). However, this Sapphire, despite all that roominess, the Sapphire gets overly warm to the touch (again vs the Singer One) when not even having been sewing for 30 minutes; has major (overheating here too???) issues in the foot peddle (despite foot being all the way down on it the machine either will not move at all or moves one stitch every 30-60 seconds), continuously garbles up the thread on the underside of the quilt (unthread all, remove bobbin, clean out under needle plate, rethread, rinse, repeat) and needle replacement on this machine is 2-3 for every 1 on my Singer (I can do a minimum of 2 major quilts and smaller projects before having to replace a needle on the Singer) - all this in three weeks!! Frustrated, to say the least and not sure if I just happened to get the one made on a Monday or Friday or if these are ongoing issues within these machines. Going to continue researching and seriously considering taking it back to JoAnn's to see if it can be swapped out with another.
