Easy Inlay's Mother of Pearl is baked to maximize iridescence and used to create many types of inlay. It can be used as is, or dyed to emulate a variety of luxurious gem stones such as sapphire blue, ruby red, jade green and more, or mix it into our Crystal Calcite to add a shimmering translucent chatoyance effect. These grains add translucent, iridescent, colorful shimmer to any inlay design; it comes from the inner layer of the shell of some oysters and abalones. On the Mohs Hardness Scale, Mother of Pearl has a hardness of 2.5 and is easily sanded using silicon carbine (carborundum) or aluminum oxide (corundum) sand paper, which has a hardness of nine. It is durable and provides an excellent surface to polish and/or finish.

Great fill for irregular shapes.
I'm using this to fill an irregular seam on the top of a guitar.Overall I am very pleased with the product. It is a small jar of shell flakes. The flakes easily crumble to fill small cracks in the wood, larger areas that I filled with Art Resin Epoxy mixed well with the epoxy and set very hard to take a polish.Nobody is going to be fooled that you cut real shell to fill an opening, but as you can see it compares well to the real shell inlays on the fretboard and the plastic pearloid binding material.

Very fragile
Wondering if this is really natural mother of pearl shell when you pick it up it flakes and you have to work with it very carefully it falls apart. It is pretty

DIY Inlay Made Super Easy
The shimmer of this product is beautiful. I just stared into the container admiring how exquisite it looked. And then I remembered--it's real mother of pearl--and as long as my routing is on point, the inlays I intend to do are gonna be fabulous!

Beautiful and versatile material
I'm really pleased with the MOP flakes. The color is good, crushed particles fill spaces quite nicely. Thanks!

Nice.
Still not sure how I feel about it for use in guitar fingerboard inlays.... a little more "glittery" than solid MOP or pearloid. It mixed well into epoxy and sands very easily. Super easy to work with. I'd be interested to see how it looks if you pulverize it into powder before mixing in to the epoxy. Experiment for another day.
